How the big three could have handled the problem, but didn't.
And now they are dealing with the insanity of soot traps that burn diesel to get rid of it, crazy that.

The Hy-Drive HGS® is a hydrogen generator system that injects small amounts of hydrogen gas, on demand, into the combustion chamber of a vehicle’s engine. The enriched air/fuel mixture burns more efficiently, extracting more clean energy from the fuel while reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Other hydrogen generation systems exist, but only the Hy-Drive HGS features an exclusive Integrated Management Module (IMM). It allows the engine to adapt to maximize the benefits of the hydrogen catalyst. And the Hy-Drive HGS is built tough to withstand the most extreme conditions. We engineer and test it to operate from temperatures down to - 40º F (- 40º C) and up to 120º F (50º C).

The HGS installs in about four hours, carries a one-year warranty and will not void OEM warranties. Once installed, it requires only the addition of up to a half gallon of distilled water every 45-50 operating hours, an easy automated process. And the unit is Bluetooth® enabled for efficient downloading of data and reports.

SAE tests prove how much the HGS saves.

To find out how effective the HGS can be under real-world conditions, independent third party conducted tests following the guidelines and procedures outlined in the TMC/SAE J1321, Type II Fuel Consumption Test Procedure. The emission portion of the tests followed the SAE J1667 protocol. Three test trucks with Cat® diesel engines produced the following impressive results:

Overall Average Fuel Savings 10.47%
Average Particulate Emissions Reduction 39.53%

Depending upon your truck applications and truck specs, you could realize similar savings—or even more!

Safety comes first with built-in HGS features.

The HGS is safe and will not harm an engine. Because power is taken from the alternator, it can only work when the engine is running. Low water level or any condition outside the normal operating range automatically shuts down the unit, allowing the engine to run normally. And these safety features are engineered in:
Pressure Relief Valve — backs up redundant safety systems
Forced Air Ventilation — releases accumulated gases
Electrolyte Level Sensor — prevents system from running dry
Reverse Polarity Protection — avoids reversed connection damage
Gas Detection Sensor — disables unit in case of internal leak
Redundant Safety Control — dual channel system monitoring
Coalescing Filter System — scrubs electrolyte from gas stream
Pre-Heater Disable — prevents hydrogen buildup before start

1. *Available only to qualified customers running Cat® C-12, C13 or C15 engines.
What are the applications of this technology for gasoline powered passenger vehicles and automobiles?

We won't find out unless we invest in research.

3. Here you go.... perhaps this technology doesn't cost enough to
make it worthwhile to the automakers.

The Gorilla family of electrolyzers boasts 2 - 16 L per minute electrolytic conversion based on model size and a hybrid gaseous product. Using a specially formulized electrolytic solution, and an advanced cell, bank, array stacking method; gorilla electrolyzers produce a higher concentration of hydrogen (83.33%) in larger quantities than ever reported.

The units are designed to retrofit any production combustion engines tapping into their electrical charging circuit, and compressor pump feeding into the vacuum lines. Units vary in size depending on the engine displacement to deliver a 0.07% produced gas : 0.05% fuel : 99.88% atmosphere ratio. Units are designed to produce gas on-demand with no storage, and no operation when the engine is turned off. The fluid lasts for 100 hrs of operation.

Gorilla Development has performed a series of emissions tests with the following results:

Idle Tests
7.2 L Caterpillar 6 cyl Heavy Duty Diesel
CO 100% reduction
CO2 0.88% reduction
NOx 33.93% reduction
Hydrocarbons 100% reduction

7.3 L Ford 8 cyl Heavy Duty Diesel
CO 40% reduction
CO2 7.33% reduction
NOx 5.56% reduction
Hydrocarbons 100% reduction

4.0 L Ford Explorer (Unleaded Gasoline)
CO 100% reduction
CO2 2.38% reduction
NOx 100% reduction
Hydrocarbons 100% reduction

Operations Tests
Fuel Consumption 30% Average Reduction

Trojes Trash Pickup Service in St Paul, MN tested the Silverback unit on one vehicle for three months. At the end of the trial period, the owners decided to outfit their entire fleet with Silverbacks, and to purchase distribution rights.

Gorilla Development LLC is currently in the process of testing for EPA Certification under the Voluntary Diesel Retrofit Program.

4. Cost be damned. We should mandate research and emissions reduction.

5. But but but..... it's just water, we can't be having the masses

using water to help get around, even if it does get rid of the gases that we so completely fear. Now this is a project Obama's teams should be all over... but they aren't, and because of that we lose an opportunity to truly clear the air.

ON EDIT TO ADD:

Based on $5.00/gallon fuel
Fuel savings of ~630 gallons to break even
Based on $4.00/gallon fuel
Fuel savings of ~780 gallons to break even
Lifetime return 5 year warrantee - estimated 10 year life
Based on 30,000 miles per year and 4.00-5.00/gallon fuel
300,000 miles at 35% savings ~5,185 gallons
x $4.00/gallon = ~$20,740.00
x $5.00/gallon = ~$25,925.00
300,000 miles at 50% savings ~6,667 gallons
x $4.00/gallon = ~$26,668
x $5.00/gallon = ~$33,335
