Are there too many attention whores?

You know what an attention whore is, right?
Someone who will do just about anything to get noticed.

And the attention whores are going to extremes, big time.

The latest being that girl who mutilated herself, splashing acid on her own face, and then blaming a fictitious black assailant.

Is our culture partly to blame?
I say yes, since just look how people who under normal circumstances would be losers that we forget about, are being celebrated.

1. Society provides a template, and the willing & eager put it to use

Palin, Bachmann, O'Donnell, "Speidi" (Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt), Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Newt Gingrich...

...the list goes on and on and on.

In great literature, "tragic heroes" are basically straight arrows with one major flaw which leads to their ultimate demise.

The people I listed are just flawed and lucky.

3. I think people who go so far as to injure themselves and then lie about it have bigger problems than

being "attention whores" -- I think they need help of some kind, and I hope they get it.
