I can't stand the donkey. We have to admit the elephant is so much cooler. Lets lose the donkey and come up with a better one. Horse maybe?

3. Thx!
I just made it while I was playing around last night. Playing. I do think that should be our motto, as it is one of our better instincts, and something liberals seem to do much better than conservatives.

Playfulness and hopefulness attract the young voters. We can't allow ourselves to become so disillusioned that we lose this.

Although a donkey can kick your ass.

5. They should look to wine labels. Women buy based on labels
and how cute they are, and damn we just must have the women's vote, and as for the rest of the base they also want plenty of 'whine'

6. Do you realize that donkey are extremely intelligent and that horses are
remarkably dumb? An significant marker for intelligence is stubbornness. Whereas a horse will dumbly obey its rider and put itself in harms way, a donkey won't. Donkeys, as everyone knows, are eminently stubborn.

Actually the way people feel about the two animals provides an interesting insight into a perversity of human nature, namely, many humans consider animals that can be trained to submit to their will, like horses and dogs, are more intelligent than animals who don't submit. That just isn't the case.

Long live donkeys!

13. Not here. I was strictly looking at it from a beauty stand-point.

Plus donkeys are called jack-asses, not too cool.........

When I think of beautiful animals, I don't think of the donkey.

I know that beautiful doesn't have a thing to do with political mascots but still, our posters could look a lot better with a cooler mascot. I love the jack russell above. Nice.

25. A jackass is simply a male donkey and one of the fastest mammals on Earth.

They have been known to risk themselves to protect loved ones, and they can be the most loyal friends you will ever find. They can endure four days in a scorching desert without water. They can kill most predators and are extremely intelligent.

So now, if I were to call you a jackass, would you still be offended?

28. I was never offended to begin with. You are very defensive
of the all mighty donkey. Just saying it's not a mascot that lends itself to good images, that is all.

I would pit the intelligence and problem solving skills of a Border Collie, German Shepherd or any number of breed dogs over a donkey any day.

The Plight of the American Donkey

As the Executive Director of a donkey rescue as well as a professional donkey wrangler, I sometimes forget that most people don’t know what I know. Doctors understand sickness, dentists understand teeth, lawyers understand law and, well, I understand donkeys. I spend a great deal of time with these animals and I guess you could say that I feel what they feel; I know their thoughts and I understand their actions. But most importantly, I view them as remarkable creatures.

Will Rogers once said, “I never met a man I didn’t like.” While few of us in today’s fast paced, keepin’ up with Jones’, super sized, internet ready world share Mr. Roger’s sentiments about our fellow citizens, I can say without a second thought that I truly have never met a donkey that I didn’t like. Although I have, on occasion, met a dog, cat, horse or mule that I had little or no use for, no donkey has ever crossed my path that I couldn’t find a great deal of good in.

Most people view donkeys as hardheaded and stubborn—a stupid animal that was used by lonely old prospectors to carry equipment and possessing little or no use in today’s world. After all, where do they fit in? They’re not listed on the endangered species list. Chances are, you’ll never see one in a pet store between the kittens and puppies. . The equine industry ignores them and the general public doesn’t understand them. Since they are typically not included as a farm animal and as they are considered feral in the wild, the American Donkey has still not earned his niche in society.

http://donkeyrescue.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1013

"No other animal that I have ever come across has the ability to take all of your power away like a donkey. In a parade one of my donkeys stopped and would not move. On a pack trip 2 of my donkeys decided that it was time to stop after just 2 hours of hiking. In both cases I was powerless. They had all of the control over the situation. If a donkey makes a decision, he will stand by it until the end. The only way to get him to change his decision is to make him think that he has had a better idea.

You cannot force a donkey to do anything. Beating will only make him more persistent. More persistent leads to more frustration on the part of the abuser. More frustration leads to more beating. You can beat most animals into doing anything including killing themselves. You cannot do this to a donkey. Simply stated, they make us look stupid."

11. Donkeys are smart.
Smarter than horses, I hate to admit, life-long horse lover that I am. Don't tell the three out in the barn I said so.

Donkeys are tough, sure-footed, and survivors. Their reputation for stubbornness is derived from their intelligence and their refusal to be forced into anything they don't think is sensible.

Donkeys are a great mascot.
