The Tea Party is not confined to the completely crazy Christine O'Donnell. In Wisconsin, Senator Russ Feingold, the only Senator brave enough to vote against the PATRIOT Act, is facing a challenge from Tea Bagging Nutter, Ron Johnson.

Ron Johnson, a plastics manufacturer who appears http://www.thenorthwestern.com/article/20100827/OSH0101/8270416/Ron-Johnson-s-business-got-4M-in-special-aid">to be against government subsidies for the poor but not for his business,  and who holds shares in BP (and who acted as one of their biggest apologists outside of the Company board), claims he has done his own research in to climate change. Well according to him, and of course other Tea Baggers,  it has nothing to do with human activity but is entirely related to sun spots.

Now no one would ever think that there is a potential conflict of interest when a plastics manufacturer argues that climate change has nothing to do with them at all. Nope no conflict there, move along and don't tread on me.

There is also nothing at all wrong in a candidate who runs for office calling for big government cuts, while they suck heavily on the teat of government grants for their business. Nope nothing there at all. It is not socialist if it goes to the wealthy and not the poor. Again don't tread on that Tea Party express.

Johnson told the Milwaukee Journal,

If you take a look at geologic time, we've had huge climate swings. We're sitting here in Wisconsin. Had it not been for climate swings, we'd be sitting on a two or three hundred foot thick glacier. Man wasn't around back then. So no, I absolutely do not believe that the science of man-caused climate change is proven. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I think it's far more likely that it's just sunspot activity, or something just in the geologic eons of time where we have changes in the climate.

The Middle Ages was an extremely warm period of time, too. It wasn't like there were tons of cars on the road. So it always strikes me as a little absurd for anybody to think, Okay, this is the sweet spot in geologic time for climate. And it's such a good place, that we have spent trillions of dollars, and do great harm to our economy, on a fool's errand. I don't think we can do anything about controlling what the climate is.

Even if you reject climate change, for what only seems to be either narrow political purposes or because of self interest, then at least taking action to reduce dependency on oil, reduce overall pollution and provide a cleaner future for the next generation would be a good thing. Obviously not if you are Big Ron.

Indeed, good old Ron cannot get enough oil. He wants to drill the Great Lakes. Now that would be brilliant for tourism.

I think I would trust scientists over a big oil apologist. The Republican Party, they no longer trust science at all. As much as Republicans accuse those who want action on climate change of  being religious about it, they are literally religious in their opposition to it. So what drives them in to this religious fervour? Well, this picture will probably convince the Party of Palin  to all start smoking again. If Saint Ronnie thought it was good, scientists must be wrong.

his response is either he misspoke because he's an amateur at politics unlike the career politician Feingold, or the liberals are taking his comments out of context and distorting his position, or he didn't hear all of the question. That last one was his excuse for his reply--we have to get the oil where it is--to a question whether he supports drilling in the Great Lakes. Maybe we need a senator who knows about the issues, can speak clearly, and listens. Oh, yeah, we have one like that now: Russ Feingold.

Can someone please invent a cigarette laced with asbestos and the toxic waste dumped by their industries. Send them on their trip to heaven a little sooner, please.
