"If you don't step down, Mr. Gonzales, we will impeach you!"
Edited on Fri May-18-07 12:30 PM by BuyingThyme
This sentence is not copyrighted.

It can be used by any Congressperson, Dem or Puke.

It guarantees re-election to the user and has absolutely no downside.

Oh, yeah, it also fulfills one's Constitutional obligation to defend the Constitution.

Up for grabs.

3. Congress really, really needs to establish credibility with the public
If they continue to permit a sideshow freak like Abu Gonzo to play them for fools, nobody will trust them to take on the big dogs.

I agree, impeach him. Sooner rather than later.

won't have to complete the impeachment process before Gonzo runs off to South America.

Bush and Cheney MUST have BJ's... impeachment obviously requires that; but who in God's world would stoop (pun intended) to do so?

Therefore, we are well screwn.

Impeachment. We think of impeachment as being reserved for presidents and judges. But Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution also provides for impeachment of "all civil Officers." The attorney general would clearly be included. The process is long and laborious: The House votes articles of impeachment and the Senate conducts a trial, but one hopes that somewhere along the line, the message would sink in and he would go. Whether Gonzales' mismanagement, mis¬statements and other missteps rise to the requisite level of "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" may not yet be clear, but, as we saw with the Clinton impeachment, that is not a hard and fast standard.

8. That's just BS
US Constitution, Article II, Section 4:

The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

The AG is a civil officer of the US.

Pundit is ignorant or lying.

30. No
removing Bush wouldn't automatically remove his cabinet.

And the word "shall" in that sentence means that once an impeachment and conviction occur, the officer shall be removed. It does not mean the congress SHALL impeach.

15. shit in one hand and impeach in the other,

Both Democratically controlled houses are not accomplishing anything so far, let alone an actual impeachment. This thread in my opnion is representative of the Democratic congress, a puffed up empty threat that in all honesty has been "declared" so many times without result that it's not even listened to anymore.

Plame scandal fizzle
stolen elections fizzle
stop the war fizzle
gonzales fizzle
accountability fizzle

impeachment is a joke, and not even a good one. The congress has a lower approval rating than bush so exactly where is the support for impeachment going to come from? So far I haven't seen the Democratically controlled house or senate accomplish anything but provide really well placed "cover" for the bush administration via half assed, incomplete, and wishy washy at best indictments, bullshit non-binding crap, and a general lack of ability to accomplish anything but empty, hollow bullshit agendas.

Meanwhile, the war crunches merrily on, the next war is still "on the table", Rove is still dealing from the bottom of the deck, gas is more expensive than ever-etc.etc.etc.

23. Really? Where did you see all them puffed-up threats made?
I guess impeachment has been "declared" so many times that Dennis Kucinich was but the last one to get on board? A good lesson for newcomers.

Hey, I know... Maybe that low approval rating has something to do with the fact that the Dems in Congress are not making enough of them puffed-up, empty threats with which you've become so familiar. Maybe there's some secret plan to keep all of the puffed-up empty threats off the table.

Just brainstormin' here.

Gonzolies (verb. nov.) English, May 17, 2007
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x907626

When Boston Globe reporter Bill Cardoso read Hunter Thompson's "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved" he proclaimed "That is pure Gonzo!" Cardoso used the South Boston Irish slang describing the last man standing after a drinking marathon.

"Gonzolies" is the English neologism describing the last man standing after a lying match.

"Gonzo journalism" refers to when an author cannot remove himself from the subject he investigates, often referring to a style of writing a story as perceived in the moment in the mind of the writer. Thompson believed objectivity in journalism was pure myth.
