Never be your beast of burden...
or Why I think the Donkey is an appropriate icon for the people of the Democratic Party.

Besides their tendency to stubbornly dig in and hold their ground and beyond that rather ferocious kick when they want to show they mean business; donkeys have historically been beasts of burden. They work hard. They carry loads that would stagger another creature. And they do it with sure-footed nimbleness. They are loving and sweet and they care for those that care for them. If you try to make them work by cruel means, they will simply sit down; their very own version of a worker's strike. You cannot force them, you can only convince them.

The poor and middle class in this country have always carried the Democracy along. Our hard work, our stubbornness, have built this country from a vast wild land into the powerhouse it is today. OUR labor. OUR hard work.
