Is the notion of bipartisanship finally dead?
Bipartisanship, is it finally dead? In this election season has the White House finally seen the light? One can only hope.

1. It's a head fake to the left right before the election..
The day after the election it will be right back to business as usual, aka: running ever faster to the right.

2. A no win situation IMO
Should the Republicans take at least one of the chambers, then "bipartisanship" will be imposed. Should the Democrats maintain control, then they will likely take it as approval of their policies and approach, and "bipartisanship" will continue, unabated.

6. Yep, that's the bottom line in USA, Inc. The highest bidder wins and SCOTUS is
right in their rooting for the highest RW corporate bidder.

4. Sadly, when "push comes to shove"
we are a corporate (Fascist) society, no matter what party.
I did not say it doesn't matter which party is the majority because of perception.
Democrats usually do try to be perceived as the party of the masses, while republicans (seemingly) want to be perceived as the "what's good for wallstreet is good for 'merica" party.

5. Huh? Can you point to any FDR-ish legislation that Democrats have proposed?
Neville Chamberlain is still smiling from the great beyond.

9. Some Democrat somewhere must have said "single payer" at one time or another.

7. It was dead the day Obama was sworn in as President...
The Democrats just didn't know it.

10. Of course the Democrats knew it..
But you have to admit it gave them great cover for an essentially center right agenda.

What's not to love?

8. bipartisanship can never die until one side, liberal vs conservative, definitively wins
and I don't see that happening.

It is dead at the moment, but it will rise zombie like sooner or later.

11. That cat has 900 lives
It will be back, every time the Democrats need an excuse to screw over the public in their corporate toadying. Every time it is suggested, it is to water down a progressive proposal that is garnering too much favor. I can't think of an instance in my lifetime that it has been used to push the Repubs to the middle. I'm sure President Chump Change will trot it out again to show how he is moving beyond the old politics (into new realms of corporatism).

12. Not as long as we have
the Leiberman's and Ben Nelson's. They will vote with the GOP unless they get what they want. Then of course there is Snow and the other one from Maine we will have to concede to. So no, even if we win it will be more of the same until we rid ourselves of the conservadems.

13. I sure hope that position is posted all over the Oval Office
and every place Rahm leads Obama to. AND I HOPE OBAMA READS IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER. And of course it should also read, YOUR PARTY SHOULD BE THE FIRST YOU APPEASE.

14. meh...
it's all part and parcel of politics.

Nothing is ever as it appears and the current dictates the flow of opinion.

Campaigning is only as good as the latest sound-byte.

Sound reasoning and courage has long ago been given away to special interests and donor influence.

We get what we get because we don't do what we need to do.
