"She wiggled her nose and made those campaign funds disappear."
This may be the meme we should be getting out there. The Republicans are trying to draw attention to the witchcraft thing in order to draw attention away from things like misuse of campaign funds. Why else would Karl Rove be calling for an explanation of the so-called "witchcraft issue"?

We need to use a little Jiu-Jitsu on them and link the witchcraft stuff to real issues in the public mind.

1. Rove is the one who dug up the other issues
he's calling attention to all her issues.

3. Even if I'm mistaken about Rove
I still think it's true that they are trying to draw attention to the witchcraft stuff in order to draw attention away from the real issues. On Morning Joe this morning they were framing it as "the witchcraft stuff" versus her "conservative economic policies", as if those are the only things to discuss.

They are trying to draw attention away from O'Donnell's real issues. We need to turn their scheme around and use it against them.

6. It doesn't have to be from Rove to be Roveian.
She probly has an Atwater wannabe on her staff.

5. Which misses the point.
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 11:08 AM by drm604
The point is to link the witchcraft stuff, which everyone is obsessing on, to a real issue. That way, every time some one brings up the witchcraft stuff, people will think about the misuse of campaign funds.

Who is or isn't endearing is beside the point.

On Edit: I'll add that maybe you do have a point. Would "waved her wand" be better than "wiggled her nose"? I'm looking for opinions here. I think "wiggled her nose" is much more memorable and more likely to stick in the public mind and therefore more effective, but I could be mistaken.

8. True, but it's an icon of pop culture so it would stick in people's minds.
At the very least, it would make it difficult for the Republicans to keep using "witch" as misdirection because it will have become connected with the campaign fund "irregularities". The best case would be that it brings those irregularities to the forefront.

I'm not convinced that the "cutesy" aspect of it is important. In fact, it could conceivably help. by making O'Donnell look silly and trivial.

10. In this instance I'm not putting any faith in people,
I'm being quite cynical. I don't like being that way but sometimes in politics it becomes necessary. Keeping crazies like O'Donnell out of the Senate is one of those times.

If I were to put faith in people than I would assume that they'll vote reasonably and not concern myself with this at all.
