Shouldn't the Dems push line Tea Party just a more extreme version of Repub Party?

Shouldn't the Dems push line Tea Party just a more extreme version of Repub Party?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does it not seem that the Tea Party is really just an extreme version of the Republican Party? And if so, why isn't the Dem Party pushing this? If things would be reversed, the Rovians would be making sure there were more of these people on ballots nationwide to siphon votes away from Dem candidates. Or am I missing something?
