Bad News for Feingold
I hope someone can tell me this is far from the truth. :(

Bad News for Feingold

A Public Policy Polling survey in Wisconsin -- which will be released tomorrow by DailyKos -- will show Sen. Russ Feingold (D) trailing challenger Ron Johnson (R) by double-digits due to a "massive" enthusiasm gap between Democrats and Republicans.

If true, Republicans once again have a chance at taking control of the U.S. Senate.

2. Damn, damn, damn, damn...
We face our own problems in Colorado, but I surely hope that DUers from neighboring states might come help GOTV. We really can not lose Feingold.

4. How? They need 10 seats to take the Senate.
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 11:54 AM by Mass
WI was always in the list of states they needed to win to get the majority and polls have been bad for a while for Feingold, so it does not change anything to the calculation. They still would need to win WA and (CA or CT) in addition to DE.

6. Feingold must be too conservative
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 12:08 PM by Uzybone
that must be why he is down in the polls.

Either that or we can't believe THIS poll, but only believe the polls that buttress our views... until election day...and then if our candidate loses it was because of electoral fraud.

19. "WI just isn't Pub territory" -- oversimplification
Well, its not deep blue either. While both Senators are Democrats, the eight house seats are split 5D/3R and the state legislature has pretty narrow Democratic majorities in both house (Senate 18/15; Assembly 52/46). The state has a Democratic governor, but from 1987-2003, the governor was a Republican.

Finally, Massachussetts probably was even deeper blue than WI is, and look what happened there.

13. He never looks worried -- but that does not mean a thing. He
SHOULD be worried, and he should be fighting, but he often acts like he is above it all. In close races like that his detachment and aloofness do not help. He should be more like Boxer -- but he is not. I have no difficulty in believing that he will lose this time. Even in the best of times, he was never an overwhelming winner.

12. Don't forget. Corporations can buy elections now.
I mean more directly than they could before.

Repeat a message enough times and voters will believe it.

15. Maybe some DUers will wake from their state of denial
A teabagger is going to take a Senate seat in a reliably blue state. Still think they're killing the Repukes?

17. Well, perhaps those who have been actively working to lower Dem's enthusiasm for this election
will realize that they not only bury us, but they have buried themselves....
so they can continue having nothing good ever to say about Democrats,
and this Democratic President, and understand that in the end, they have been
much more effective at indirectly helping paint Democrats as not being good enough,
no matter who they happened to be.

I don't thing making his vote against Wall Street Reform a central point is a winning issue. It might appeal to his strongest supporters, but Wall Street Reform is very popular among Democrats and Independents. With the intense focus on Elizabeth Warren's appointment to the CFPB, this is not the time to highlight a vote against this bill. Republicans are running on repealing everything, and this vote only serves to confirm the GOP's opposition to the law. In other words, it's not a distinction.

The curious thing is that Feingold is defending health care reform, not distancing himself from it and it's less popular.

edited missing word.
