Al the Muslim baiting, all the stirring up hate about the non Mosque not on Ground Zero has not helped Republicans in New York. The Summer of Hate, at least in the Big Apple failed.

Bloomberg is reporting the latest poll:-

A majority of likely voters supports Democrat Andrew Cuomo in his bid for New York governor against Republican Carl Paladino, a Rasmussen Reports poll shows.

Fifty-four percent of likely voters favor Cuomo, the state’s attorney general, compared with 38 percent for Paladino, Rasmussen Reports said today. It’s the first survey of the state’s governor’s race the polling group has conducted since the Sept. 14 primaries.

2. Paladino has absolutely no chance in NY.
In fact, that 38% seems high. I worked the primaries as election inspector and in Westchester County Paladino only got 17% of the Republican vote.

3. The douche baggers just handed NY to Cuomo
Lazio was a bad candidate. Paladino is simply unelectable. I don't care how much braying the RWers do...the numbers are simply not there. No moderate Republican will touch Paladino.

4. They didn't hand anything to Cuomo.
Cuomo was far ahead of Lazio, too.

What they may have done is hand some marginal legislative and Congressional elections to the Democrats instead, since more moderate Republicans will be tempted to stay home rather than vote for Paladino.

15. I'll take it!
Lazio may have been a more palatable candidate to indy-conservatives, who will either vote for Cuomo (who is a whore, but he's *our* whore), or stay home. In my red district, I see that as a good thing. If we can turn Albany, we may become a functioning state once again. I hope Cuomo learns the lessons of Spitzer and doesn't try to run the state house like the AG's office.

5. i just saw an ad that said paladino got $10 of taxpayer mony last year
and gave a whole bunch to candidates. hard to see how he is going to cut taxes and spending when that may affect his pocketbook. still there are a lot of signs around where i live. i can understand poeple being mad at albany. i am mad at albany. i wish we could throw them all out and start over. but i can't see what paladino is going to do to fix any of our problems here. he speaks in generalities and gives no concrete ideas. i mean, besides putting all us welfare recipients in prisons and teaching hygeine... and i don't know if i qualify considering that we only get child health plus and medicaid for the kids and my husband and i get state health insurance and we get HEAP. but i consider whenever they are talking about welfare queens, they must be talking about me as well. my husband works his ass off and we are just under the cap for the insurance and we get reduced lunches. we will take whatever help we can get. we are $200 over for food stamps or we would have those too.

i have family members who want paladino. i don't know what they think he will do to fix anything. as far as i can see, people like him don't really want to cut spending. they just want the spending to go to people like themselves and for the rest of us to have to pay for it and for them to not have to pay for it.

i am glad to see that paladino isn't doing as well as the signs littering the area suggest. frankly i can't see how he wouldn't be his own undoing. at least he is honest and doesn't try to hedge the issues. too bad it makes him look even worse when he coldly suggests that women shouldn't have abortions even in the case of rape or incest and they can give the baby up for adoption. he looks like a smarmy used car salesman to me. he gives me the creeps. god help us if he were ever to be in any position to make decisions for me!!!

7. I'm in NY too and can not conceive of him winning
I live upstate and see the signs in some of the yards. Thing is, as a guideline, I distrust any millionaire business man from Upstate NY. Look at the mess that Golisano kicked off last year. He's another one, aspirational failed politician. They should focus on running their businesses and stay out of politics.

The thing is, our legislature is a mess. I am less worried about the governor (still pissed at Spitzer -- is it too much to expect a guy who is that high profile to keep it clean while he is occupying the most high profile office in the state? Does no one learn from Clinton?) than I am about the downstate guys like Espada in the state senate. The sad fact is that the most powerful of our incumbents (Democratic and Republican) are corrupt two bit hustlers.

I'll be voting Cuomo. (Incidentally, I have a soft spot for the poor guy for that polo player mess with his Kennedy wife--now that was a mess).

11. i totally agree with you. i am sick of albany and their bs. i wish we could
have NOT paid them for all that time they weren't friggin working. imagine what that would have done for our deficit. i don't blame people for being mad. unfortunately they aren't really sure who to be mad at so they aim it in all directions. i mean, the re-election rate in this state is in the high 90%. and it pisses me off that it seems the parties get to pick who we vote for and they are going to make sure these people play the game. it is a game. i wish instead of just being mad and not thinking things through we have people going for whoever says they are mad at albany and claim they will fix it. we need to figure out what we are going to need to do to fix that legislature issue.... how do we get rid of the corrupt politicians!

i will be voting for cuomo myself. and spitzer was an idiot. you are so right. how hard is it to friggin keep your ass clean!! i mean come on! i am hoping paladino will show his crazy and lose by a landslide so these nutjobs will go back under the rocks they crawled out from.

9. This is part of a building trend
In Maryland, Incumbent O'Malley leads challenger, (former incumbent) Ehrlich 50 to 47. Also, this is the first time O'Malley has been above 50% since March.

Things are trending our way.
