It's a nice concept, don't get me wrong, but it's not a label you should wear proudly unless you can unfalteringly commit to it and not screw up.
These days, politicians who claim to be for family values are a joke. Why add another of scrutiny to yourself or your policies?
It's far easier to not run on that platform.
When Clinton got caught in affair, nobody cared because he never claimed to be a person of values. When Gingrich got caught, he was universally labeled a hypocrite.

1. Politicians who wear that label never support MY family values. |

You know like universal healthcare, high minimum wage, accessible daycare, well-funded schools. Basically stuff families can actually use.

Believe me, people cared and cared A LOT that Clinton had an affair. I mean, that's why they tried to impeach him, for crying out loud.
Gingrich is not "universally" called a hypocrite. If he were, the pukes wouldn't have anything to do with him. They, however, in good authoritarian fashion, have a nice neat double standard: Their family values don't apply to their leaders. That's why they're quite comfortable excusing Bristol Palin's behavior which, had that been Chelsea Clinton, would have been denounced from every rooftop.
No one (on the right) mentions McCain's cruel and ugly divorce, or the fact that his present wife supports his ex-wife. No one mentions Gingrich's divorces. The right-wing leaders are different, they're special, they're forgiven by virtue (?) of their leadership positions.
On the left, not so much.
