Michael Moore: Ground Zero McDonald’s Killed More People Than 9/11 Hijackers
Noel Sheppard of NewsBusters came across this over the weekend, and I feel even though this is a couple of days old, it’s one of those idiotic videos that people should see – it’s definitely a head scratcher coming from Moore himself.

Sheppard reports:

Schlockumentary film producer Michael Moore on Friday said the McDonald’s that’s two blocks from Ground Zero killed more people than the nineteen hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Chatting with Bill Maher on HBO’s "Real Time,” Moore also accused Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin of being America’s Taliban.

"We should start calling them Cleric Gingrich and Mullah Taliban Palin,” said Moore.

Why don’t we have words for people like Gingrich and Palin? You know, because they’re essentially our mullahs, you know, our Taliban. We don’t ever really refer to them as, but we should start calling them Cleric Gingrich and Mullah Taliban Palin, or whatever. See how that, see how that fits. Because I think that their, their level of bigotry is so un-American, and, I just, I just. <...>

Hey, how about that McDonald’s two blocks from Ground Zero, Bill? That’s killed, that’s killed more people than the nineteen hijackers.

8. A bit hyperbolic, perhaps, but his point has a lot of merit.

If you don't think fast food and the diet it fosters, along with our current *modern* industrial agricultural system full of GMOs and other poisons and meat from torture facilities then you ain't been paying attention.

edit:because i can't find the space bar.

30. I don't think that the almost 3000 people
that were murdered that day, would share your sentiments. If they could.

31. "that's just dumb."
since there's no way of polling them you're putting words into the mouths of the dead, most of whom you didn't know.

42. My jaw just literally dropped a tiny bit,
subconsciously, at the mind numbing dumbness of your post.

You do realize that these were actual people that died right? Not some George Bush propaganda story, right?

I think you need to step away form the computer for a bit, and get some fresh air.

2. Accurate but immaterial
McDonalds for all it's faults isn't trying to Murder Americans; the perpetrators of 9/11 set out to Murder.

I don't know what Moore's point was, and the article seems cherry picked - guess I'll have to watch this video.

12. He's overweight so his argument is irrelevant?
Moore's point was that people are full of faux outrage over a community center 2 blocks away from ground zero, but they don't think twice about the McDonald's that is already in this supposed sacred neighborhood. We decide to fear rare acts of terrorism, but don't blink an eye over the sheer amount of heart disease in this country. It's an interesting argument.

As for his weight, he has brought it up publicly in the past and has worked hard to lose weight.

19. My point is that the McD's at Ground Zero has not killed more than 9/11
That is just plain ridiculous. Again if he really thinks that and is not just making a cheap shot where and what does he eat? Silence.

I'm certain McDonalds has indirectly killed a hell of a lot more than almost 3000 people.

But unless you are a epidemiologist who has studied that McD's and the people who eat there, instead of being an anonymous internet poster, forgive me for thinking you have no credibility.

http://www.cspinet.org/nutritionpolicy/nutrition_policy.html
>"The federal government’s largest nutrition education program for the general public (the 5 A Day program) has an annual communications budget of about $3.6 million.1 Mars spends 68-times that to promote M&Ms candies ($68 million).2 McDonald’s spends 1000-times more than 5 A Day on advertising and promotions ($1 billion)."

while the report doesn't *accuse* mcPoison of murdering more than 3,000 named customers, no need to be a genius to "get the picture"

But at least you made a half-hearted attempt unlike the poster I was replying to. Moore and the poster said specifically the Ground Zero McD (not all McDs) had killed more people than 9/11. Your link does not even remotely address that claim.

Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 04:06 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
Nobody asked to die on 9/11 except the hijackers.

An off the cuff remark meant to get laughs? Ok. Touting his statement as common sense or some kind of deep truth? Ridiculous.

As far as Moore making this comment for a joke. Us sheeple who believe that 19 muslims did this on their own with the help of OBL - now that's the joke. Flame away

29. McDonalds has never killed anybody.
Now it's true that fat slobs have killed themselves over a lifetime of bad eating habits and lack of exercise, but one can't blame McDonalds for that. Especially people like Michael Moore.

35. well, its not really that dumb. The food you eat, the pills shoved down
every hole you have, the huge amount of people dieing in hospitals when they went in for very simple things...

MacDonalds actually is representative of the american way of life, it's replaced apple pie (which is semi-healthy) so I don't think Michael is too far off. the U.S. is an unhealthy nation, unhealthy in body and spirit - for the most part.

36. McDonald's doesn't kill anyone.
Shoving double-handfuls of McDonald's food down an overstuffed gullet and washing it down with 44 ounces of sugar water several times a week kills people -- the difference between that and 9-11 being one of choice, obviously. Nauseating dietary habits and a complete and utter inability to control oneself are a bit different than being in a building that just had a couple planes smash into it.

44. McDonald's chooses what food they advertise and how unhealthy they make it.
They could offer cheap, fast food that was less deadly if they wanted to.

Most of the leading causes of death in developed countries are connected to the kind of food McDonald's pushes on people with kiddie playgrounds and billions in advertising. They're a far more deadly threat to the public than al-qaeda.

If we had our priorities straight we would deal with McDonald's as the massive threat to public safety that it is.
