The Corporate Fascists Are Coming For Our Food Supply And They Must Be Stopped
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 03:02 PM by G_j
S. 510, the so-called Food Safety Modernization Act, is very bad news
and must be stopped.

Stop S. 510 Action Page: http://www.peaceteam.net/action/pnum1057.php

In the aftermath of the massive recent Salmonella in eggs recall it
is clear that 100 percent of the real problems with our food safety
are the giant factory farms, where animals spend their entire
wretched lives wallowing in their own filth in claustrophobic
conditions. These CAFOs (we call them Concentrated Animal Filth
Operations) are just mega breeding grounds for bacteria and deadly
new viruses that end up not just in animal products but spread to
vegetable fields and even our water supply.

We need a scalpel, and a large one, to cut to the heart of these
problems, but not a huge blunderbuss of a shotgun loaded with random
bird shot. We need to keep onerous new bureaucratic regulation from
driving out of business the small operations that are the bed rock of
our real food supply safety. And most of all we don't need another
food czar who is just a corporate crony to wave through a massive
invasion of genetically modified crops and animals and call it food
safety modernization.

S. 510 is just a huge corporate takeover of our entire food supply,
to our health detriment, and must be stopped at all costs.

This is just another example of why we need to break the death grip
that corporate special interests now have around the throats of our
wise public policy. We need your help more urgently than ever to help
us distribute the "Corporations Are NOT The People" bumper stickers
while there is still time to save our democracy.

Please consider picking up a bulk pack of 25 for just a modest
donation, which is what makes it possible for us to send free bumper
stickers to anyone who cannot make a donation right now. Be the key
activist in your own neighborhood to get these in the hands of all
your friends and on to their car bumpers.

Bulk Corporations Are Not The People bumper stickers:
http://www.peaceteam.net/bumper_stickers_bulk.php

And you can always get one free for yourself with no donation
required, if you have not requested yours already. You can also have
your choice of an "Impeach The Supreme Court 5" bumper sticker.

Single bumper stickers for no charge:

And here is the Facebook link for the Stop S. 510 action page further
above.

And this is the Twitter reply for this same action

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed
to be ours, and forward this alert as widely as possible.

If you would like to get alerts like these, you can do so at

1. So buying Corporations are not the People bumper stickers will stop S 510?
That's interesting. How does that work?

Hey what if instead of buying Corporations are not the People bumper stickers I write my congressman. Would that be more/less/about the same effective?

3. the pot and the kettle
I'm sorry but the insistence of not using imprecise mechanisms for solving the problems is kind of dwarfed out by the contradictory auto-labeling, of businesses who try to minimize cost/maximize incomes, as simply being "corporate fascists after our food supply"

5. They already have control of it.
*Monsanto* (not the only one but one of the biggies)
He who controls the seeds, who grows them and how much and what to grow, controls the food supply.

Farmers Markets = buy locally, buy organic.

6. Wait .... Consumers Union is supporting this legislation ....

Think this issue -- BOTH SIDES OF IT -- needs a second look ---

this is E-mail I got today from Consumers Union --

Anyone have any more info to contribute to this discussion???

QUOTE ...

Under the Senate’s complicated rules, just one Senator can hold up a vote on a bill. And because of that rule, the long-delayed food safety bill could die in the coming days without ever getting an up-or-down vote this year!

That would mean food producers will continue to operate indefinitely under our outdated food safety system – a system that contributed to 85 food recalls this past year, including tainted lettuce, sprouts, cookie dough and a half-billion eggs!

Call your Senators on our toll-free hotline and tell them to vote on the food safety bill NOW! Phone calls from constituents are important, and can give Senators the needed push to act.

Dial 1 (800) 944-6762 to be connected directly to your Senators:

•Tell the staff you want safer food for you and your family, and that politics shouldn’t hold up improvements to our outdated food safety system.
•Ask them to urge the Senate leadership – Senators Reid (Democrat) and McConnell (Republican) – to bring S. 510, the FDA Food Modernization Act, to a vote immediately. The bill has bipartisan and widespread support.
•Remind them that if this bill does not pass the Senate now, it will die and the process will start over from scratch next year. Meanwhile, countless lives are at stake from unsafe food!
Your hard work on food safety has taken us this far. American consumers shouldn’t lose the right to safer food because one Senator can let the clock run out.

Please make a toll-free call to your Senators now, so we can prevent expensive and deadly food outbreaks before they happen!

Thank you for all your help!

Sincerely,
Jean Halloran

7. HOW ABOUT .....
Instead of propaganda from both sides of the argument, we link to the actual text of the bill and let people decide for themselves?????
