Muslims voted for Bush by the same margin as born-again evangelicals did... |
|
So if (according to the right) loving Bush means that you love America, and hating Bush means you hate America, don't Teahadists hate America by virtue of their hatred for Muslims? I'm confused.

That's a mighty broad brush you paint with.
The Muslims I know are in small business and think (wrongly) that the republicans have their interests at heart.

I marvel at liberals. Now, although I swing left of center, I no longer call myself a liberal, not because the right wing has turned it into something bad, but because those who scream that they are liberal often profess ideas that I find ridiculous.
This is one of them. Everyday on this board I hear someone bitching about Christianity. And in most cases it is an accurate attack. However, that same person is often defending Islam in some form. I understand it on some level. They blame all of societal's ills on white guys of Christian background and they defend the muslims due to western hegemony in some form or another since modern time... Problem is that it shows no nuance of thinking and becomes as black and white as the very people you criticize.
We attack Christianity in a Democratic society and defend Islamic people and states (the most patriarchal theocratically dominated, freedom repressing ideologies and countries in the world.
Most muslims voted for Bush because christian fundamentalism and islamic fundamentalism are two sides of the same coin. They just have different names associated with them. Underneath it is still about controlling the masses, judgement and punishment, repression of natural sexuality, making women second class citizens, hate/death to homosexuals, replacing the constitution with theocracy and so many more.

12. I don't defend Islamic radicalism.. |
|
I simply defend the rights of Muslim citizens, even the ones ignorant to have voted for Chimpy McSmirk, to worship as they see fit and to live according to their religious precepts so long as doing so does not involve imposing their moral hygiene on others.
For the most part, Muslim-Americans are 10,000 times better at this than born-again peons.

but anyone or their beliefs are not protected from criticism. And I don't believe muslim Americans are 10,000 times better. Both groups are lead by irrational beliefs that cost other people their freedom.

Many devout Xians tend to support social conformity and are intolerant about other sets of belief, lifestyles, etc. These Xians are united in their profound disdain for liberalism, tolerance and pluralism. I think many (though not all) devout Muslims share the same disposition.

currently: " 49 percent of Muslim Americans consider themselves Democrats, 36 percent independent, and 8 percent Republicans. the Pew Research Center published Muslim Americans in May 2007. The survey found that 11 percent of Muslim Americans identified as Republicans, 63 percent as Democrats, and 26 percent as either independent or having no leaning. During the 2004 presidential election, 14 percent voted for Bush and 71 percent voted for Kerry, according to the study." http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/aug/20/tamara-holder/crowd-gop-big-tent-doesnt-include-many-muslims/------------- Also American-Muslims support President Obama higher than any other religious group http://www.gallup.com/poll/142700/Muslims-Give-Obama-Highest-Job-Approval-Mormons-Lowest.aspx
