DCCC Outraised NRCC By $1.7 Million in August

By John McArdle | September 20, 2010 5:56 PM

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee outraised its Republican counterpart by about $1.7 million in August and maintained a hefty cash cash on hand lead heading into the final two months of the cycle, according to the latest monthly fundraising reports.

The DCCC brought in just over $8.3 million last month compared to $6.6 million for the National Republican Congressional Committee. The fundraising victory for the DCCC broke a string of four consecutive months in which the Democratic committee had been outraised by the NRCC.

The DCCC showed about $39.1 million in the bank on Sept. 1 compared to the NRCC's $25.6 million.

The NRCC's August fundraising total is down from the $8.5 million the committee pulled in during July. The committee's total that month was bolstered by a $1 million transfer from Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Conversely, the DCCC did significantly better in August than it did in July, when it raised $6.2 million.

1. That's great - but why is everyone still talking about Dems losing in November?
It boggles the mind.

4. There's some truth in that...
I think some media tycoons would like nothing better than to see the elections obtain the drama of a Real Housewives of New Jersey episode.

5. Are Republicans splitting their giving into other groups, such as American Crossroads?
I keep expecting the Citizens United decision to be reflected in bigger hauls for the RNC and AC. Maybe the fear of that is motivating our side to give.

The NRCC has now filed their report with the Federal Election Commission. Here are a few noteworthy nuggets we picked out:

*

The NRCC spent almost $1 million on IEs during the month -- $959,000 to be exact.
*

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) transferred $400,000 from his "Boehner for Speaker" political action committee to the NRCC on Aug. 31. His Speaker PAC also helped funnel another $116,000 in conduit contributions to the committee.
*

Members who transferred $100,000 each to the committee last month were: NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (Texas), GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.), Rep. David Drier (Calif.), Rep. Jeb Hensarling (Texas) and Rep. John Mica (Fla.). Two Members gave more than $100,000 -- Oklahoma Rep. Frank Lucas ($140,000) and California Rep. Ed Royce ($130,000).
