Teachers In Third School Year Without New Deal

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - On "Back-to-School Night" in the Neshaminy School District on Thursday night, there was one very important thing missing: Teachers!

Fox 29’s Claudia Gomez brings us her report from outside a junior high school in Levittown.

Claudia reports that not one single teacher showed up for this important night at Carl Sandburg Junior High, or at the other two schools in this district.

Approximately 150 parents showed up to meet the teachers. Instead, they were given a speech by the school’s principal.

"The teachers' union does not want to pay for health benefits. The school board says it does not have the money to pay for such benefits. Both sides are still far apart."

So they want teachers to agree to a contract that contains NO health benefits? That's an ugly starting point when negotiating contracts. I know when I was in school one of the main reasons my friends went on to become educators was because of the health benefits. That was a given. To expect teachers to work with NO health coverage is just obscene. IMO -- YMMV.
