1. Thanks. I'm starting to watch it -- it is a little embarrassing though -- |
|
The "prime rib" of America? "equality is the prime rib of America, but because I'm gay, I don't get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat my country has to offer?" :wtf:
Plus, she really is an amazingly homely young woman.

2. Gaga takes on "cafeteria Americans" |
|
And I say good on her for it. Wish more Democratic politicians had the fire she does.

4. Perhaps, but this is no time to play "kill the messenger" |
|
Her name is Stefani Joanna Angelina Germanotta, and she is an American citizen entitled to the same rights and privileges as the rest of us do, even if she were to enlist in the Armed Forces, and so what if she's bisexual? If she can shoot straight, she doesn't have to be straight.

5. Pop music celebrities ... |
|
... are just about the last people I would ever consult on public policy issues.
I guess they help draw a crowd for rallies/fundraisers.

6. Let me break it down this way... |
|
If I should find myself in the unfortunate position of having to use deadly force against those who are posing a direct threat to me as well truth, justice, and the American way, and one of these marauders shoots me in the arm and the hip, and all of a sudden Lady Gaga is standing over me trying to stop the bleeding, I'll hand her my AK with my good hand and tell her, "The hell with me - cut down those bastards." And based on the passion that she just exhibited in that speech, I'd trust her to mow the lot of them down as much as a grizzled Marine corporal would.
And I wouldn't care that she wrote pop music or might have feelings for another woman. We're all Bozos in this bus.

8. Then who was she hugging at the end of her speech? |
|
Plainclothes bodyguards? No, I'm betting those were men and women in uniform who were drummed out of the Armed Forces because they ran afoul of DADT.

10. She's not being consulted, she is advocating a position |
|
as all active Americans should do when they feel strongly about an issue. This is on the Senate floor this week. She was at Senator's doors along with others who share her view.

12. Exactly - grassroots Democrats are known for doing that |
|
And I say once again that Lady Gaga's done her country proud with that speech.
"ARE YOU LISTENING?!?" Someone in Congress damn well better...

15. I am in awe of those who can whine about 'the media' and then |
|
rail against a master of the media using the media for an excellent and even Democratic cause. They should be taking notes, and acting accordingly. They too should use that which they have on hand, be it fame, phone skills, or extra time or money to help bring about change. GaGa has some fame to spare, so she's helping out with a dose. She is wise to do so. Fame is a dangerous thing, and if you do not share it, it will eat you for champagne brunch.

13. Her music is empty, soulless, vapid, and grating. |
|
First and foremost she's a musician, and in that capacity I find her singularly lacking -- regardless of what positions she holds with respect to DADT.

17. thank you, Codeine . . . |

glad I'm not the only one who finds Gaga totally worthless as an "entertainer" . . .
my nephew, unfortunately, thinks otherwise -- but then again he's the one who told me that the Beatles can't hold a candle to the Jonas Brothers . . .

And the insults towards her in this thread seem a little silly.
