I hope he's right. But more importantly, if he IS right, I hope the Dems grow a spine and get things done.

teabaggers are such dreadful trolls. I do hope the dems start kicking ass.

28. He has.
On CNN's State of the Union:

link: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE68D3VQ20100919

"I think it's become very clear now ... that the control of the Republican Party is in Tea Party candidates who do not speak for independent or moderate voters at all," Democratic Party Chairman Tim Kaine said on CNN's "State of the Union" program.

"We have a feeling that we're going to do very, very well in closing that gap with independent voters between now and the second of November, because independents do not like what they see from this ascendant Tea Party and the Republican Party," Kaine added.

* snip *

Kaine said the Tea Party, by causing Republicans to run against one another, has become like "the Donner party" for Republicans. (He was referring to the American pioneers who turned to cannibalism in the winter of 1846-47 to survive after being trapped by heavy snows in the Sierra Nevada mountains.)

"It's knocking off Republicans left and right -- and giving us opportunities to win some very tough seats that six months ago we frankly thought we were probably not going to win," Kaine said.

* snip *

Kaine said a sitting president's party on average loses 28 House seats and four Senate seats in congressional elections held two years after a presidential election. He predicted the Democrats will retain control of the House and Senate.

"I think the Republicans are moving way to the right of the American electorate,"
Kaine said.

"We're going to lose seats. We're not living in average times. When the economy is tough, that means that there's volatility in the electorate," Kaine added.

Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 08:36 PM by Better Believe It
The Democrats certainly haven't exercised their power in Congress.

They will be even less inclined to challenge Republicans in the new Congress with Republican gains.

21. What kind of legislation? Was it legislation opposed by Wall Street and corporate America?
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 08:50 PM by Better Believe It
Like passing and fighting for the Employee Free Choice Act.

Or passing legislation that restored our civil liberties and the rule of law.

Or even proposing, much less passing meaningful health care legislation that challenged the power of the insurance industry and big Pharma by implementing a single payer system or at least a strong public option.

Or passing legislation that would control Wall Street, end deriviatives trading and prevent the Wall Street tycoons from causing an even deeper economic crisis.

Or ending any more funding for needless war.

Or passing a robust, bold and massive plan to rebuild the nations infrastructure that was proposed by Congressman Oberstar and opposed by the White House.

Or proposing a bold plan to create millions of useful and vital public works jobs along the lines of the WPA and CCC enacted by FDR during the last depression.

I know.

Those are just a few minor issues that don't amount to beans.

The really big and important stuff was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama.

That's why public support for and confidence in President Obama and Congress is at an all time high.

Was that your intention? Are you actually suggesting that some sort of Pollyanna attitude is at the root of the slow progress on these issues?

and unending attacks on their living standards?

You frickin bet we are!

It's called passion based upon the hard facts and political reality of our economic situation as opposed to wishful thinking.

Do you want us to hold it all in and pretend everything is just hunky dory?

And it's justified anger over the political paralysis in Washington .... the seeming inability and/or unwillingness of the controlling party in Congress and the White House to provide leadership and challenge Wall Street special interests that have victimized tens of millions of us on Main Street.

35. You're accusing me of wishful thinking.
I'm pointing out that you are doing that, in this case, with no facts behind you. You are assuming, it seems, that anyone who doesn't agree with you has a Pollyanna attitude. This may not be correct, and to assume it is obviously not getting you very far.

The situation is extremely frustrating, I'd agree.

What did he offer as a REASON why we would hold Congress? I didn't get that memo.

And this party isn't doing JACK SH*T to excite the base.

I'm sure of this. It is a matter of getting out there and getting the truth to the voters. I agree that the core of the party is acting stupidly now. But I stand strongly by the statement that the republican advantage in the polls is SOFT!!!!

The economy is recovering. I'm feeling it. I know that it hasn't reached the unemployed and the poor yet but they should be voting for us anyway!
