Republicans Cry “Class Warfare” When They’re Winning the War

Republicans Cry “Class Warfare” When They’re Winning the War
By Matthew Rothschild
September 20, 2010

Whenever Republicans are at risk of not getting their way for their millionaire constituents, they cry “class warfare.”

So it was that House Minority Whip Eric Cantor just whipped out the old accusation again in the Wall Street Journal, blaming the Democrats and “the progressive left” for “provocative class warfare rhetoric.”

What Cantor doesn’t like is the rhetoric.

But he’s content with the class warfare, because his class keeps winning, battle after battle, war after war.

Over the last decade, most Americans have been losing ground, with real wages stagnating and household incomes falling.

“Real median income for working-age households is now $4,925 below its peak in the year 2000,” according to the Economic Policy Institute.

1. I don't think I've ever heard even 1 Democrat reply "Yeah it's class warfare and
your side is winning (or already won)."

"professional left".

And most Democratic politicians rarely saying working class. They almost always say "middle class" because we all like to think of ourselves as being "middle class" and not members of that lowly working class.

4. I know I know. But one would think that they'd at least have the common sense to pander to us. I
mean after all politicians are supposed to be good at that even if they're all full of shit.

5. More Framing The Message...
...something the rushpublicans are still damned good at. They drive the corporate media narrative and drive Democrats crazy as they box themselves into corners. You'd think by now the Democrats, at least, would get wise to these games.

Simply put when the GOOP launches some type of xenophobic attack on Hispanics, Blacks or Moslem or any group and they're called on it, they then accuse Democrats and the "professional left" with being the "real" racists. It's meant to diminish the argument and neutralize any criticism in a "fair and balanced way".

The same applies to economics. When the rich (and their rushpublican proxies) want something they either say how fattening their wallets is good for everyone (trickle down) or those who are critics are waging "class warfare". They're just spoiled kids who want what the rich have and aren't smart or ambitious enough to get it. As always the "fair and balanced" media falls for the framing and fuels the false equivelency game.

The GOOP knows they only need to keep their lies and diversions going for another 6 weeks. They need to keep the base energized while the rest of the electorate bamboozled.

6. the usual declaration of war involves the phrase "a state of war exists"
most declarations of war are not, "hey we're starting a war now".

on the contrary, most declarations of war are merely a formal RECOGNITION OF A REALITY THAT ALREADY EXISTS.

in this case, class warfare has long existed, and we should characterize it that way.

warren buffett has acknowledged that: “There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”
