Lindsay Lohan is quite likely going back to jail for more drug use. (Insert joke here) |
|
It isn't funny. How many of you - of US - are first hand participants or witnesses to the very same in our own lives?
She is absolutely no different than a shitload of other people her age, older, some younger, addicted to drugs. Its a disease, not a crime. When does this country realize that? When do we get it that it is cheaper to rehabilitate than incarcerate?
Lohan is fortunate. She has the financial resources to do what needs to be done, even if she's not yet ready for it. What about the scores of thousands who just fall through the many cracks in the system? What about the users sitting in jail for YEARS because they got caught with a few crumbs of shit and a bent spike?
Lindsay Lohan is no joke. She's emblematic of a lost group of people for whom this country wants nothing more than some form of Calvinistic retribution.

A young woman in a fish bowl subject to the publics scrutiny with no privacy.
How many of us would survive in that same situation?
She's a young woman with problems. She has my sympathies.
We live in such a screwed up society.
We fawn over celebrities (real or imagined), build them up, put them on a pedestal, yet, when they show themselves as being human, society is quick to tear them down by using some of the most cruel and inhuman tactics. We wish to be them when they are famous, yet take sadistic glee when they fall.
Sadly, it appears that Ms. Lohan needs to hit bottom before she will truly accept the help she needs.
More power to her. I truly hope she, one day, finds peace in her life and in her mind.

2. I am right there with you.i have seen it too many times |
|
i have had so many patients who have been drug addicts.the ones who have it worst seem to be the ones from wealthy families. They keep thinking if they shell out the bucks,it will all be better...don't make the folks look bad.the worst one was a kid I went to high school with.his dad was the minister of the biggest baptist church in town.he was the go-to guy for pot and more hard-core drugs.he was a big-time heroin addict.dad kept him swept under the table...bad for business,y'know. The kid ended up in prison-where he finally got some help.It was a f-ing nightmare for him.I always felt sorry for him-would invite him to our little parties.he was alone in his own house.

4. You are absolutely correct |
|
People are still obsessed with "punishing" "SIN". It is pretty disgusting. When someone puts other's lives in danger, yes, they need to face some penalty; but jail really isn't the answer for addiction in general. It just gives people the opportunity to feel better than someone.
If it weren't for addiction then the prison industry would face their own major recession. To be honest, having drug use criminalized is completely idiotic IMO. It doesn't seem to reduce crime.

5. The joke is the media coverage. |
|
We now have network "News" coverage with this issue in the lead segments! The daily "Business Insider" report has her picture on the front lead page today! Enough already! I feel for her - and the aforementioned thousands (if not millions) more just like her throughout our society. But, the coverage is similar to the old village square stocks where we lock an unfortunate in for the laughs. Calvinistic retribution indeed!

6. Actually I don't think she has the financial resources anymore |
|
She hasn't made a significant movie in ages other than a few bit parts here and there. Her legal fees have to be off the chart and she's got a horrible drug habit to support.
She's very close to hitting rock bottom. She thinks this bio of Linda Lovelace will rescue her but the production company is some second rate film group hoping to make a soft-porn film using a once famous child actress.
Seriously, if Drew Barrymore was able to pull herself out of the depths of drug haze dependency then I think there is still hope for Ms. Lohan. She just needs to ditch the enablers first. I think part of Drew's recovering was realizing her mother, Jade Barrymore, was a major impact in Drew's addiction. Dina is another Jade Barrymore.

7. Jail and punishment won't help her and she needs help. |
|
No one with drug issues belongs in prison for drugs alone.
She needs counseling and therapy and support. Maybe even a career change altogether.

12. I still maintain counseling and medical attention. |
|
Putting drunks in jail after-the-fact only theoretically helps as they are restricted from driving. Punishment in the forms of fines and loss of driving privileges would be appropriate, but insufficient by themselves.

9. Needs to get away from Hollywood. |
|
How many photos lately have we seen of her stumbling around in an out-of-body daze from club to club? She keeps right on going back to this drink/club/drug/fuck lifestyle and wonders why nothing at all is changing; why rehab is nothing more than a rotating door to her next fix.
She needs to leave Hollywood/LA for a year or two and go to the country or something, breathe air and just settle down. Be heavily monitored and guarded so her enablers and dealers cannot get in.

10. She needs to go to a real rehab facility. Media should quit covering her |
|
because it gives her publicity every-time she does something. She should only get publicity when she goes back to accomplishing something positive.

13. She needs serious time away from her family, her entourage and from drugs. |
|
It seems like she does not understand the reality of her actions nor take responsibility for them, and if it takes a long time in jail to get her attention, then that's OK - it may save her life.
