How did Bill Clinton lose so much weight?
I've heard him talk about an experimental diet that supposedly promotes regeneration among damaged arteries. Anyone know if it is published anywhere?

He looks and sounds great.

1. I read he went vegan and stayed; lost weight for his daughter's
wedding. I don't know the exact plan, sorry.

2. "Mostly" vegan.
As much as I'd love to give a vegan diet all the credit, that would be dishonorable. He did switch to a plant-based diet, with a now-and-then seafood meal.

He looked fantastic on Letterman last night.

6. it's probably a variation of the Dean Ornish diet
which has actually decreased the arterial plaque in some but not all people.

It's a pretty good diet, not a deficiency diet at all, but a well balanced diet with adequate nutrition. He does rely on oily fish, though, to supply the omega 3 fatty acids.

Pritikin also had a diet out that wasn't bad, but it used lean meats as well as fish.

8. Eh, he doesn't need to eat oily fish to get Omega-3 fatty acids.

I eat very little seafood/fish, and I take an organic flaxseed oil supplement.

It comes as a large, dark brown softgel. 300 for about $15.00 at CostCo.

Two of those softgels supply me with all the Omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids I need every day.

It lasts me 5 months, or $3.00 per month. Cheaper than eating fish.

EDIT: Here's the exact product I'm taking

You can also buy it on Amazon.COM for $19.50. Still, that's less than $4.00 per month if you take 2 per day.

9. Seaweed, canola, hemp, flax and soybean oils are good sources
Fish is just the most efficient way to get them, relatively little of it supplying a great deal of oil.

Clinton is probably relying on the oils for his since he's on a weight reduction diet, as well.

4. My diet keeps me slim. Eat less, Eat better, Exercise more.

Little dairy, almost no meat except fish, vegan 'meats,' wine daily (and/or maybe a beer), lots of greens, hummus, tomatoes, olive oil. Orange juice and a bowl of Trader Joe's Oat O's every morning before the gym.

7. A good vegan/vegetarian diet based on natural foods will do that every time.
Not that I do it. I eat too much junk. But once when I wanted to lower my cholesterol I went vegan (I'm vegetarian already) and stuck to a whole foods diet. I lost 20 pounds in a few weeks, lowered my cholesterol 90 points, and felt great. Even my memory and eyesight became noticably better.

I slowly began slacking off after a few months, and within a year was back to my old habits, and within two back to my old weight (though not cholesterol). Clinton has more discipline than me, so I imagine he can maintain it longer. :)
