http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/21/g-o-p-reception-stirs-up-criticism-from-democrats/In the rhetorical war over which political party has deeper ties to much-maligned Washington lobbyists, White House officials on Tuesday seized on a perhaps ill-timed party invitation.
The invitation trumpeted a reception for the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee, hosted by Akin Gump, one of the top lobbying firms in Washington.
The date of the soiree? Nov. 2. Election night.
“WOW,” wrote Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, in a Twitter message he sent out moments after Politico first reported the invitation.

“At least we’re finally getting some truth in advertising,” said Hari Sevugan, a spokesman for the D.N.C. “The G.O.P. is owned and operated by special interest lobbyists for corporate America and the wealthy.”
