Are you listening to Thom Hartmann? Vote stealing!!!
He's been talking to Congressman DiFazio about the dirty tricks the Pubs are playing all across the Country. Art Robinson is running against DiFazio and has been running a terrible campaign Art's ads were terrible and he was way behind in the polls. Today a "NEW GROUP" set up shop in downtown Oregon and they're blatently advertising that they have formed thanks to the SCOTUS to promote Art Robinson. They intend to pour millions into his campaign if necessary for him t win. Then Thom & DiFazio were talking about "caging" where a group sends out some kind of mailing to everyone on the voter roles. Any mail piece that is returned is judged to be just cause to remove the voter's name from eligibility. THEN they intend to have people at the polls to challenge voters as to their eligibility. BUT GET THIS: They will challenge your vote if your address is "just marginally different" on your DL than on the registration roles. ie: Your address is 123 Michigan Avenue on your DL and it's 123 Michigan Ave. on the voter roles. They claim that is a DIFFERENCE and you are then given a provisional ballot (which is most cases is not counted and if it IS counted, it's usually well after the election has been certified!)

Both Thom & DeFazio are strongly warning Dems to take this situation VERY SERIOUSY because it's happening all across the Country and the media is also ignoring it. It seems that the only way Pubs can actually WIN elections is by cheating & throwing tons of $$ into an election and this year they're determined to WIN!

5. Mail in voting is asking for fraud.
The more centralized, and further from a voter a voting lever is, the more it can be tampered with.

In a local election there was caging that was done to me last election.

The best voting system is chiseling on stone tablets, after that, carving on wood sticks, then writing on paper, then lever machines, then optical scanners.

Why that order?

Because the more permanent and bulky a vote is, the harder it is to steal. By having votes on electronic machines, one person can steal thousands, by it being on paper, they would have to add in many paper ballots.

Same thing with distance from voter, if it is mail in, then centralized counting makes theft easier, and out of view of the voter. If it is dispersed over large areas, then they can't change the votes as easily.

Voting 'made easier' is many times is made easier to be fraudulent.

6. I disagree.
Here in Oregon, you can watch the votes being counted. There are a LOT of safeguards built in, and great care is taken that every precinct's count is accurate down to the last vote. I don't know about caging, but theft is damned near impossible.

13. Glad to hear that about Oregon
What I know is my ballot was returned in an election awhile ago because of claimed signature mismatch.

Heh, I been signing my name long enough to know that should not have happened.

It would be easy to cage with something like that, but you are correct if there is layers of observers, it can be accurate, just relating my experience with that issue.

8. We always get an absentee ballot. Ga. switched to electronic voting
machines in 2000 (one of the 1st states to do so!) and I haven't trusted elections here since! I feel a "little better" knowing that at least MY VOTE is on hard copy.

7. And that media narrative about the inevitable Republican sweep is being
harped on specifically to provide cover for the theft of the elections.

9. Great post, a couple of nits to pick...
Oregon, being a state, has no 'downtown'. I assume you mean downtown Portland, Oregon? Or maybe the capitol, Salem?

Art Robinson's ads are not only vicious and despicable, but they are utterly loonilicious. Mean and tea soaked mailings, bitter and poorly made radio and the TV ads are so bad they are an insult to TV, ads, and even to political ads. Crap on the half shell, and negative as negative can get.
Peter DeFazio is a good man, and he runs a great office, the staff is tops. One of the best in the House.

11. RNC has been under an Injunction since 1982 for voter caging
I have worked on the voter protection team for Kerry/Edwards in 2004 and the Obama voter protection team in 2008. I just got an e-mail asking me to volunteer for the 2010 elections. The Democrats have well organized voter protection operation.

The RNC has been under an injunction in New Jersey federal court since 1982 for its ballot security/voter caging operations. The RNC did its best after the 2008 elections to get this injunction lifted and the court instead extended this injunction for another 7 years. Back in May of 2009, the lawyers for the RNC whined about this injunction and really wanted the court to dissolve the injunction. The RNC has a long history of voter caging and voter suppression operations. Heck, former Chief justice Rehnquist got his start in repug politics as a member of a poll watching operation in Arizona where non-white voters were challenged as to their right to vote.

This latest example of voter caging will be used to extend the existing injunction for a couple more years at the right time.
