The chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party was caught using the f-word to describe the tea party during a union political forum Monday night.
During a passionate speech about health care, Chairman Chris Redfern was attempting to supply supporters with a potential response to critiques of the president’s health care reform law.
“Now he or she gets health care, your health care, while he or she looks for a new job. In the very base terms, we win these arguments and every time one of these
says – excuse my language,” Redfern said, using a variation of the f-word, according to a video clip posted by Wheeling, Ohio, television station WTOV.
The state party did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Redfern told the NBC affiliate that he was under the impression that he was speaking at a private event, although he acknowledged that he noticed a reporter and photographer inside the United Steelworkers union hall.
Ohio Republican Party chair Kevin DeWine called on Redfern to raise the level of political discourse.
"Ohio Democrats have clearly lost it before they've lost it," said DeWine. "No one likes trailing in the polls, but Ohioans deserve better than angry stump speeches full of name-calling and profanity. It's certainly far from the politics of post-partisanship that the Democrats promised two years ago. Let's show a little class."
