Jackson man arrested after attacking parrot, Ann Arbor police say

A Jackson man who carries his pet parrot in his backpack was arrested Tuesday night after police say he violently shook the bird as its feathers flew, causing enough of a commotion for witnesses to call 911.

The attack occurred in the 1000 block of South Main Street in Ann Arbor at about 9:30 p.m.

Police responded to three 911 calls from witnesses, who reported a man was attacking an unknown animal, Ann Arbor police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

Initial reports came in from the intersection of Pauline Boulevard and South Seventh Street, Bush said. Officers caught up with the man on South Main Street and saw him shaking the parrot as it was "squawking loudly" and its feathers were "flying all over," Bush said.

The bird fought back, biting the man, leaving one of his thumbs "scratched up and bloodied," Bush said. The bird had redness in one of its eyes, bald spots on the back of its head and neck and was limping, Bush said.

I can see and hear the whole thing: the little guy with the mustache, the rolling eyes, the 30s style animation, the heart attack on the doorstep... "Who is it?"

PS: It was the Electric Company after all!

9. Ahhh the images these word pictures evoke...
"pet parrot in his backpack", "feathers...flying all over" "attacking an unknown animal","The bird fought back, biting", "scratched up and bloodied",
"redness...of... eyes"

Yes! I see it now! Palin/Beck fall out on prime time Faux... Sorry parrot, lost my composure there for a minute.

26. Oh, a PARROT.
I don't know why I was thinking of the other kind of "poultry" that sometimes gets "choked."

I'm glad the bird fought back and won.

See? If he had just been doing what I thought before I read the article, I wouldn't want to see him behind bars for that. But this, throw away the damn key...attacking that poor bird that way.

Or, he could have even flogged his dolphin.
