1. From a Dublin blog -
Protest on the first day of the re-opening of the Dáil as part of the September 29th, European Day of Action called by the European Trade Union Confederation.

The 29th September marks an international day of protest that has been called by the European Trade Union Confederation against the policies being pursued by across the continent making working people and the unemployed and anybody who depends on public services pay for the economic crisis. The day will be marked by a general strike in Spain and mass demonstrations organised by the trade union movement in the rest of Europe.

If you would like to take some leaflets or help put up posters, please feel free to contact us at 01-6795030 or email at 29septemberprotest@gmail.com

7. As that blog says, the general strike is only in Spain
There are demonstrations planned elsewhere, especially Brussels, but the strike is only in Spain.

A major day of action organised by the European trade union movement will be held on 29 September. Delegations coming from about 50 trade unions and representing 30 countries will march in the streets of Brussels to protest against austerity measures. Employees cannot be the only ones to pay for the irresponsible speculation of certain financial institutions. In parallel with the Euro-demonstration in Brussels, a general strike will be held in Spain and protest movements are planned in Portugal, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Cyprus, Romania, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Serbia and Ireland. The effort of the trade union organisations is focused on the Euro-demonstration in Brussels, which will include a strong presence of Belgian trade unions, but also delegations from France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Romania, the United Kingdom, Norway, etc. The European industry federations will also participate in the Euro-demonstration.

6. We can't even get one country to strike. They've got balls, and I've heard that
some of those governments are afraid of the citizenry, not the other way around (like here!).

It will be something, that's for sure. I wish them the best!!

9. So do I -
Greece started it off, and it looks like workers across Europe have had enough. Hope that it reaches our shores as well.
