How come no one talks about the "wall street" guy at the town meeting
who asked Obama to stop treating them like a pinata? Is it because it doesn't fit the meme that he is in the pocket of Wall street?

instead they focus on the "middle class" (A CFO? doesn't have/need a credit card?) woman who was "exhausted of defending him" and gave no reasons other than generalities.

1. The answer is simple.
If President Obama can't be bashed over something, it didn't really happen.

16. Yup. Big media is owned by Wall Street billionaires and the ads are bought by them too. (nt)

2. They don't want to draw attention to anything that even remotely...
Appears to be Obama putting wealthy whiners in their place. In fact, there's no need to draw attention to the wealthy at all right now... and that includes anyone associated with Wall Street... wouldn't be prudent...

5. He needs his ass kicked for that stupidness
Edited on Wed Sep-22-10 07:38 PM by Number23
His finger-wagging bullshit makes him look like a fool. And I guess because the woman who posed the question was black she was just AUTOMATICALLY supposed to be all "Testify, Obama!" I stopped watching IMMEDIATELY after he said that bit.

I know Stewart is worshiped by the nerds of the world for being "hip" and "cool" and sometimes he is. But this time, he wasn't even close.

8. Recounting someone who said nothing doesn't amount to saying anything.
"I have been told that I voted for a man who said he was going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. Im one of those people, and Im waiting, sir. Im waiting. I don't feel it yet."

Said the Chief Financial Officer who can afford to put two kids in a private school with no credit cards.

What is she waiting to feel? What say you?

14. She's the CFO of a veteran's charity.
I don't think she's exactly raking it in. The non-profit sector was hit pretty hard by the recession.

15. CFO's are never poorly paid, even for non-profits
She can afford to send two kids to private schools and she doesn't even need a credit card. She is NOT struggling.

Who's still waiting to "feel" change for the middle class.

13. It is because if the media and others actually told the whole story....
they wouldn't be able to manufacture outrage against the President, imo.

Excellent question!

Recommended.

19. 'the Wall St guy'. Now THAT was a smackdown! Heres the TRANSCRIPT, from LINK
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/09/20/remarks-president-cnbc-town-hall-discussion-jobs :

"Remarks by the President at CNBC Town Hall Discussion on Jobs

... MR. HARWOOD: Lets go to Anthony Scaramucci, who is familiar to some viewers of our network because he appears on CNBC as a hedge fund manager.

Q ... I represent the Wall Street community. We have felt like a piata. Maybe you dont feel like youre whacking us with a stick, but we certainly feel like weve been whacked with a stick. So I certainly think that Main Street and Wall Street are connected, and if were going to heal the society and make the economy better, how are we going to work towards that, healing Wall Street and Main Street?

...THE PRESIDENT: theres a big chunk of the country that thinks that I have been too soft on Wall Street. (Applause.) Thats probably the majority, not the minority.

... when I hear folks who say that somehow were being too tough on Wall Street, but after a huge crisis, the top 25 hedge fund managers took home a billion dollars in income that year -- $1 billion. Thats the average for the top 25, ...

If youre making a billion a year, after a very bad financial crisis where 8 million people lost their jobs and small businesses cant get loans, then I think that you shouldnt be feeling put upon. The question should be how can we work with you to continue to grow the economy. A big source of frustration ... had to do with a proposal to change a rule called 'carried interest,' which basically allows hedge fund managers to get taxed at 15 percent on their income. Now, everybody else is getting taxed at a lot more. (Laughter.) The secretary of the hedge fund is probably being taxed at 25, 28 -- right? And these folks are making -- getting taxed at 15.

Now, there are complicated economic arguments as to why this isnt really income, this is more like capital gains, and so forth, which is a fair argument to have. I have no problem having that argument with hedge fund managers, many of whom I know and went to school with. And I respect their business acumen. But the notion that somehow me saying maybe you should be taxed more like your secretary, when youre pulling home a billion dollars or a hundred million dollars a year, I don't think is me being extremist or being anti-business. (Applause.)"

Great OP. Great questions.

We all know the answer.
