Port St. Lucie, FL mayor arrested, resigns
You may wonder why I'm writing this here in GD as opposed to the Florida forum. Well, our Mayor was arrested for doing the same things that Christine O'Donnell is accused of doing. She was arrested yesterday and quickly resigned from her post as Mayor.

The charges stem from the mayor's 2006 campaign.

A political critic of the mayor requested copies of her fundraising documents and filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The FDLE says Christensen deposited approximately $3,800 of her campaign funds into her personal account to pay personal bills and expenses.

The arrest caps off what has been a turbulent month for the mayor which started with the arrest of her son for providing alcohol to a minor.

Erik Christensen was arrested Aug. 20 on a misdemeanor charge of serving alcohol to a 15-year-old girl July 30 while his parents were out of town.

That led to a very public feud between the mayor and the police union.

Last month police unions gathered outside Port St. Lucie City Hall to demand Christensen resign over comments she made in a private e-mail sent to more than 70 people.

In that e-mail, Christensen accused the department of arresting her 18-year-old son, Erik, in retaliation for her supporting police layoffs and increases to health care benefits as part of citywide budget cuts. Christensen said she would not resign and apologized for her remarks.

The police union says on Thursday at 2 p.m. it will file an injunction to stop cuts to the force. 24 PSL police officers and 3 civilian police employees are slated to be laid off.

1. If she was in Cleveland Ohio, she could continue to work
Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora says he is going to show up to work Thursday morning for the Commissioner’s meeting, but a recent agreement will limit his ability to carry out the job.

Dimora reached an agreement with the defense on his bond during a hearing Wednesday morning, one week after being indicted on federal bribery charges.

As part of the agreement, Dimora is restricted from having any contact with anyone named in the indictment unless a lawyer is present. Also, he is unable to vote on or discuss certain county issues, including the budget.
