Disclaimer...Pink Pistols
I posted about the Pink Pistols, a group who wants to arm gays. It turns out they are a very Right Wing gay group. Yes, we have right-wingers...think Log Cabin.

I will not support Pink Pistols and I hate my own gullibility. I don't really like guns but I just get so very pissed off at homophobia...so very pissed off. It KILLS us, you know. It's blatant on right-wing sites and here it's just...dismissive but homophobia, none the less

I guess I will just have to stick to kicking homophobes knees backward. Please, do not support this group.

1. Don't say that, it's the only "liberal" pro gun group "out" there

3. I've wondered
I've wondered where you and your anti-gun tirades had gone. You're really good at dismissing people's feelings and really bad at addressing their fears. I've noticed that.

So, when someone really does belong to a very vulnerable group, gays, women, minorities...groups with hate crimes against them numbering in the thousands EVERY year, what do you suggest they do...we do? I've never really seen you offer up any helpful suggestions....just a lot of disdain and blame. Well?

15. And most of these hate crimes are by gun wielding heterosexual men?
Edited on Sat May-19-07 07:47 PM by billbuckhead
True I have nothing but disdain and contempt for gun zealots but I'm the one standing up for the 100,000's of thousands of gun victims we have in the USA per year they don't have in Europe, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan. Intresting that most of the most gay friendly, women friendly and generally more tolerent areas have strong guns laws. Massachussetts, San Francisco, Europe, Canada come to mind. Conversely, most of the most bigoted places like the "red" states and Afghanistan are very gun friendly.

4. I don't
I don't know if they are actually Right Wing. I do know they disrupt gay pride parades and get-togethers in ways that are not appreciated.
I suspect the NRA approves of them and the NRA is pretty damned right wing.

6. If you don't know (I don't either) then you probably shouldn't post it as fact:
"It turns out they are a very Right Wing gay group."

9. Being Disruptive
Being distruptive at gay rallies isn't exactly progressive but you're right, I should have clarified Karl...thus my doing it. : P

12. No offense meant! I admit I know almost nothing about them.
Were they disruptive as in shouting down speakers?....or something like that....or were their actions perhaps -reported- that way? I guess I need to do some research. I've criticized the other Pink outfit for some of their antics because I saw them as being counterproductive. Maybe it's just a perception variance...

7. I believe one or more DUers who post to the Guns Forum are members of Pink Pistols. If the group is
right wing, then I don't agree with political orientation.

I do support the right of every law-abiding citizen to keep and bear arms for self defense.

18. Northern Virginia PP chapter found by a hetero with a bisexual ex-girlfriend
 Can't make phoniness like this up.

"We want to try and do outreach to both sides, to show the stereotypes are not correct," said Brian Hepler, a co-founder of the Northern Virginia Pink Pistols chapter, one of the group?s largest with 40 active members.

Hepler, who is heterosexual, said he got involved with the group through a bisexual ex-girlfriend, and became the de facto leader when she stepped back because of job responsibilities.

Most gay people stereotype gun owners "as white trash rednecks driving pickup trucks with gun racks in the back," while most gun owners assume gay people to be "limp-wristed guys with cravats around their throats, prancing around? wanting to ban guns because they are icky," he said.

"We want to show that both sides are wrong," Hepler said.

Doug Krick, a bisexual Massachusetts Libertarian activist who founded the Pink Pistols in 2000, agreed that the "pink shooting community" faces barriers -- and opportunities -- in both of the groups it wants to represent."

5. Their roots are actually libertarian
Edited on Fri May-18-07 06:35 PM by slackmaster
I think their motives are good. A true right-winger doesn't care about gay people.

16. Libertarians are RepubliKKKans who just won't grow up
They are the Peter Pans of politics and truly useful idiots for corporama.

Many true traditional conservatives have nothing against gays. Then what about the J Edgar Hoover--Roy Cohn--Karl Rove type of rightwing homosexuals?

It does not refer to the Libertarian Party.

20. Same difference in results
Just a utopian vision of an unattainable world devoid of responsibility or even accountability. The conservative counterpart to anarchy.

14. check out the pink pistols' enemies list
Edited on Sat May-19-07 11:42 AM by iverglas
http://www.pinkpistols.org/antigun.html
The following organizations have lent monetary, grassroots or some other type of direct support to Anti-Gun organizations. In many instances, these organizations lent their name in support of specific campaigns to pass Anti-Gun legislation such as the March 1995 HCI "Campaign to Protect Sane Gun Laws." Many of these organizations were listed as "Campaign Partners," for having pledged to fight any efforts to repeal the Brady Act and the Clinton "assault weapons" ban. All have officially endorsed Anti-Gun positions.

For more details on these companies or groups, see the section on Anti-Gun Corporations/Corporate Heads, below.

This detailed information is being supplied, to make the owners of stocks, and users of products and services, totally aware, of whom these organizations or people are.

It would take many pages to print out; I assume it's just cribbed from the NRA's enemies list.

If you're a Methodist, you're there. If you belong to the ACLU or the American Bar Association, you're there. Most people at DU are probably there, one way or another.

College Democrats is there. The Women's National Democratic Club is there. The YWCA is there. The United Nations is there. The Union of American Hebrew Congregations is there. The Unitarian Universalists are there and the United Church of Christ is there. Physicians for Social Responsibility and PETA and People for the American Way are there.

Oh good grief, I wasn't even looking at all the Hollywood liberals on their own separate list.

Aaliyah - Singer
Aerosmith - Pop Music group
Allen, Krista - Actress
Allen, Steve - Entertainer*
Amis, Suzy - Actress
Anderson, Louis - Comedian
Anderson, Richard Dean - Actor
Arquette, David - Actor
Asner, Ed - Actor

-- and obviously, that's just the "A"s.

And cartoonists -- Garry Trudeau's there.

All the big MSM are there. Except Fox.

And a whole lot of big corporations -- Disney, Hallmark Cards. So I wondered: any overlap between the PPs' enemies list and a list of anti-gay corporations? I found this one on a quick google:
http://www.actwin.com/eatonohio/gay/comdiscr.htm

Lemme see ... Denny's and Domino's Pizza, two easy picks. ... Nope, they're not on the Pink Pistols' enemies list. Maybe the PPs have a separate list for anti-gay people and things ... but I'm not seeing it.

That link does have Fox on the list.

Oh, and Jerry Falwell isn't on the PPs' list.

Their links page:
http://www.pinkpistols.org/links.html

No Democratic links there. No links to anywhere I'd want to be going. Not even, oh, the Human Rights Committee. Not a single GLBT-focused/friendly kinda link at all.

Here's a good one: "The Hate Crime Myth"
http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment012201c.shtml
(On edit - just realized that the PP link took me off the site; sorry for the icky link)
Three fine reasons why "hate crimes" legislation is a bad idea.
"People don't save people. Guns save people."

Not in my world or any world I want to live in.

17. The "Pink Pistols" are an archetypal gun lobby astroturf organization
Edited on Sat May-19-07 07:37 PM by billbuckhead
Phony as a 3 dollar bill.

If the reichwingers really want to arm vulnerable groups, they would be handing out semiautomatic assault rifles to new immigrants.
