I'm glad there won't be a vote on extending the Bush Tax Cuts... |
|
...we need to let them expire.
Do. Nothing.
This is the one time when it is better for the Democratic congress to do absolutely nothing.
Let the end of the year come with nothing done about the tax rates. Let them increase on January 1st, 2011.
*THEN*.... introduce legislation to lower the tax rates on incomes under $250,000.
It reframes the debate... no longer is it about "Bush" tax cuts. It is about a NEW PROPOSAL of Middle Class tax relief.
Dare the GOP to vote it down.
If they vote it down, that's a win: Tax rates are back to their Clinton-era levels... and the deficit starts to go down.
If they cave and vote for it, that's a win: Middle class gets tax relief. Obama gets the "tax cutter" label for 2012.

10. Not true.... the Senate initiates legislation too.. |
|
Pass it in the Senate... then force Boehner to have to answer for not bringing similar legislation up in the House.

11. According to Article I, section 7 of the Constitution.... |
|
Section 7 - Revenue Bills, Legislative Process, Presidential Veto
All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

15. Good luck with making Boehner do anything |
|
All he has to do is say that the people spoke in the election and we can go f ourselves. He's shameless. And then there's the blue dogs in the Senate.
Sorry for being such a party pooper but look what the hell they're doing when they're the minority.

After the election.
And ALL of the Bush Tax Cuts will be extended.
Every single last fucking one of them.
Time to tell the Blue Dogs to leave the party. Bush clones not welcome.

4. I see your reasoning, but we're throwing our best issue away right before the election. |
|
We should be using this like a cudgel on the Rethugs. It (should) clearly define the difference between us and them.

12. We can still use the issue without a vote, |
|
by explaining what the Republicans want to do (borrow to keep tax cuts for the wealthy). I think a vote before November would be a stronger message to voters, but we still have the issue without it.

December, or whenever, the rich will get it. Don't be delusional, please.

8. No... they really won't. The lame duck Dems will have no reason to vote for it... and... |
|
the ones still in office will be the ones who were against it.
If there is a vote after the election, it will likely be a BETTER vote for Democrats.

9. Not really. The public knows our position, regardless of whether there is an actual vote |
|
The problem we have right now is that too many Dems in vulnerable districts might end up voting FOR the extension before the election.
After the election, they will have no such pressures.

13. are you for real? Just stand on a street corner and ask the "PUBLIC" as you call them |
|
who is the leader of the Senate???
Just try it........
seriously.........
Then ask who is the leader of the Congress..
come on try it.........
again seriously!!
Ask who is the Vice President..
Of the so called "Public" you believe in so much...
Ask them what are the first words of the Constitution..
try it..I am not being funny..
And you think the Public knows what the Democratic position is on the Tax cuts??????????
Are you serious????????
You would have better luck with the "Public" as you call the people of this country ..asking them who won American Idol or Dancing with the Stars! That is a fact jack.
