Obama's tax plan sounds great, but if he lets congress go home w/o touching it what's the point? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-23-10 12:58 PM by CreekDog
i guess this is the point where everybody except those in Congress and the White House get bug-eyed and stomp around say, "ARE THEY INSANE?" (like when Health Care was almost dropped)
why oh why are Democrats from the bottom to the top perennially afraid of big issues? (I mean our leadership mainly)
do they think that because the polls shifted their way a few points that we should, "not make a big fuss before the election"?
i just don't get it anymore. :banghead:

1. This is Congress' fault, not Obama's |
|
He's been pushing it for weeks. Congress is letting the Blue Dogs dictate here.
Why are Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Reid not acting?

2. Obama can make the Leadership act |
|
even if he can't make his party in congress vote his way.
i'm not blaming him, but we will look totally impotent if they go home without touching this --in my opinion.

8. Different branches of government. |
|
The President can call Congress into session, but he can't force them to vote on anything.

10. What's he supposed to do, hold his breath? |
|
The Blue Dogs want to separate themselves from him--they'd rather be seen endorsing Bush than Obama at this point.

11. you're right, he's completely powerless. not sure why we even *elect* a president. |
|
since the office is so powerless, maybe we should just abolish it.

12. i share your frustration |
|
all i said was that if he wants it, he should put some muscle behind getting them to do it.
and suddenly the apologists jump on me as if i said he's supposed to kidnap them and at gunpoint make them do what he wants.
:wtf:
i'm climbing uphill in my own party.

17. like i said, why bother with the charade? abolish the office. let congress run the country. |
|
better yet, let the gop run it since they're so powerful it doesn't matter who the president is or who has the majority.

18. Congress is the lawmaking body, not the President. |

The President enforces laws that do exist. It's simply not his job to make the law.

Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 12:47 PM by Hannah Bell
btw, i didn't realize the president was the "enforcement" branch. it was my impression "executive" had a different meaning.

16. with friends like you, Obama doesn't need... |
|
first you defend his lack of involvement saying he can't change this. fine.
then i say he can "try".
then you say, how, i say, "like he did with health care" (a success by the way)
then you say, oh, no he doesn't get credit for that, it was all Reid/Pelosi.
:wtf:
i guess he was just talking about health care everyday during the debate for the hell of it. :eyes:
you are losing the META on this.

an election. I am serious. In their district, its basically come down to if your a dem bad, republican less bad. I told you my Uncle is friends with Rep Sandlin, right? Basically she's going to lose for one big reason...She voted for Pelosi. Nothing else seems to matter in these reddish districts.
