Vince Gray - Michelle Rhee - No Decision

No decision after Gray, Rhee meeting
September 23, 2010 - 2:14pm

WASHINGTON - The future of D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee remains unknown following a long-awaited meeting Thursday with the city's Democratic mayoral nominee.

Presumptive mayor Vincent Gray has repeatedly said he would not make a decision about retaining Rhee until after he had a chance to meet with her.

But a noon session with the chancellor at the Wilson Building was "not a decision-making meeting," Gray says.

Gray says the two city leaders did not discuss Rhee's tenure, and instead focused on education reform, Gray's education platform and higher education.

Please read the article.

In the picture, Gray is on the left, Rhee in the center. Although two men resemble Fenty (the heads), neither is.

Gray and Rhee were both grim-faced when the meeting was over.

Gray told reporters that it was not a decision-making meeting.

Rhee said nothing except that she needed to get back to work for the benefit of the students.

I hope to Hell she's out on her teacher firin' charter school ass. The only people that support her are the city's conservatives, white (self-identified) elite from the surrounding jurisdictions (as if this is their fucking business), and repubicans.

Good riddance to bad news.

5. I *really* hope Gray tells Arne to pack salt in his ass
I suspect he will. She campaigned openly for Fenty.

This is one of the complaints about her in DC.

also to add: Gray IS a big charter supporter!

7. on Rhee & Charters
" She raised test scores, narrowed achievement gaps, and stopped the flow of students to charter schools, . . ."

ashington, D.C.: Hi Michelle,

Why don't you turn all of your schools into charter schools? This would create competition between them and provide them with autonomy to improve

Michelle Rhee: I'm a fan of effective charter schools, but don't think that a system of ALL charter schools will solve the problem. Specifically, now the DCPS elementary schools are outperforming the charter elementary schools. When the spread of achievement in charters is as broad as it is, that's a problem. All charters are not successful and the failing ones water down the impact of great ones (like KIPP and EL Haynes). Therefore, I don't think just chartering all of the schools are the answer. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/09/20/DI2009092001636.html
