Am I missing something here? I thought the brouhaha was all about the tax cuts for the RICH?

1. Well, they aren't are they |
|
We have all been telling them this is how it will play out.
Maybe these kind of stories will bring them to their senses.

7. Buried in the story is this... |
|
THIS is what is the crux of the story, not that headline:
Obama and other Democratic leaders have repeatedly expressed their desire to extend the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts -- currently slated to expire at the end of the year -- only for families earning less than $250,000 and individuals earning less than $200,000.
Republicans have stood firm on supporting extensions of the tax breaks for all taxpayers, including the wealthiest Americans.

9. Are dems going to hold a vote before the election? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-23-10 08:35 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
I don't see the spin outrage. The Dems who are blocking this are assholes but they are still Dems.
If our party was solid on this then we would have a vote.
Isn't this really about sparing a bunch of Dems in the House embarassment?
Anyway, still trying to keep an open mind. Will read more.

11. By 'ad nauseum', I meant it happens all the time. |
|
'Classic media spin' applies to only putting forth the part of the story they think will get the most bang for the buck, ignoring the rest of the story. Of course, that might not have happened because I didn't read the link-none provided.
As for the Dems, I'm sickened, too. They seemed to have had a perfect issue to run with and they bloached it.

3. This is exactly what "our" "Democratic" legislators deserve for their game-playing. |

I wish I could feel some outrage about CNN's spin.

Just call for a vote. If it fails then blame the usual suspects. Sometimes I am amazed at what wimps the Dems seem to be.

13. They won't be able to blame the usual suspects |
|
Because for them, the usual suspects are the republicans.
For many of us, the usual suspects are the corporate sympathizers in the Democratic party. They are the ones who would fuck up such a vote. And since the public widely supports passing only a middle class tax cut, they would have no evidence to point to as to why the hell they did it. Beyond of course, "I want to keep my rich friends and donors happy".

BUt I think far more Repubs would vote against it than Dems. Still the Democrats do seem to have a way of snatching defeat from the hands of victory.

6. Can someone please explain? |
|
I don't get this at all.
I thought the vote was for extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. And the Dems were going to vote against.
This is something I don't understand at all.
I'll check CNN, but if someone has any insight...I'm all ears (or eyes).

I don't understand, spanone, not arguing, just asking.

If the media spins this story to make it look as if our Democratic leaders really ARE Democratic, then they risk losing their election because their TeaBagger opponent might call them a socialist and the media will echo it, and then people in the heartland will believe it, and cause they don't want to be voting for some liberal, they might.

15. Well, considering that a number of Conservative Dems want to preserve Bush tax cuts for the wealthy |
|
I don't think they have much choice. Since the DLC is likely to get it's way on the tax cuts for the wealthy, I would assume that is something that is better done AFTER the election.

Who wants to go back home with a record of voting for middle class tax cuts. Why to Dem pols think we are that stupid?
Makes me want to donate to Sharon Angle just to put the bastards in their place.

19. The Senate Dems. are afraid of taking on this issue, which is very winnable. |
|
"Obama tax cuts for middle class vs Bush tax cuts for the rich" is how the dems should be framing this issue.
