Starship Lookout: moving at twice the speed of solitude (DIAL-UP WARNING)
Nothing to look at here, folks (but some photos and captions, in reverse chronological order)!

Moonrise over the Maury Mountains tonight

Moonset over Paulina Peak early this morning

Moonset this morning

Moonset to the west over the Newberry Volcano rim, and sunrise to the east in a reflection that includes the lookout interior. This might be the best photo of the season.

I absolutely LOVE this photo, but then I know what the composites are.

Yesterday's (9-22-2010) moonrise

Sunfog from Monday 9-20-2010

7. Wonderful as usual
I like the fourth one, too.

Have you ever done any HDR photography? It occurs to me that your position and quality of light when you take them would make your photos excellent candidates for that technique.

Looking forward to the rest, and next year as well!

9. I have already saved some RAW files to process as HDR.
I have also saved some RAW files for a panorama from the lookout.

17. Recently you posted about a fire near Hole-in-the-Ground and it reminded me.
On a family vacation some years ago, Ms. D and the kids and I drove right up to the edge of it (an explosion crater) and Ms. D fell and biffed her knee.

She survived, but it took until about Fort Rock and a handful of Ibuprofen before we could move on.

Image stolen from Wikipedia because it's pretty cool.

Drove our Subaru up to the road on the right-hand side of the crater in the pic.

I always enjoy your posts from central Oregon, but that goes without saying.

18. I think that is a morning-light photo ..
With Sugar Pine Ridge and the Crater Buttes to the right above Hole-in-the-Ground and Paulina Peak and Newberry in the upper center. With a slightly wider angle lens you might could see China Hat and me at East Butte (to the upper right)!

But thanks for sharing. ;*)

Hope you're holding up ok. You aren't missing much fun here in the human world. Hope we've made made some improvements before your return.

19. We didn't get the big yellow harvest moon around here
because the Southern Rockies are in the way, but the moonrise between a couple of peaks was extra bright tonight and almost made up for the loss.

23. I lucked out.
I would have preferred a little darker setting situation, but the pale moon was impressive too. The moonset's proximity to Paulina Peak was my lucky stroke.
