Chuck Todd doesn't refer to President Obama as "President" only "Obama" |
|
He just calls him "Obama" over and over showing the disdain he has for him with his disrepect to our President.

1. This came from Bush supporters while he was President. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. |

Especially journalists, who seem trained to truncate everything.

I agree - it's common shorthand.

2. The question is did he call Bush, Bush or the President? |
|
I suspect he called him the President.

6. That is the salient question |
|
Many people call every President by his last name only. Is it respectful? No, but it's not necessarily DISrespectful either (e.g. "Lincoln freed the slaves." or "Truman served one term in office."

8. Some just cannot deal with the FACT that a black man is president. |
|
If Obama were white, IMO, and there was disagreement with his policies, he most likely would be President Obama.

this is actually one of the many times I regret the fact that a black man is president.
Why?
Because it seems that every. single. thing. that happens is due to the fact that he's black.
Death threats? OMG!!! it's because he's....black!!!
Disagreement with his policies? OMG!!! it's because he's....black!!!
Not a citizen of the US? OMG!!! it's because he's....black!!!
Other (white) presidents have suffered disrespect and outright hostility. But people forget that.
Ever since I was aware of who the president of the US was at any particular time, I've always referred to him by his last name. Even the white ones.
People seriously need to stop throwing the "racist" card around every time they see something they don't like. It cheapens the word.

I have called all presidents by last name - black, white, green, purple.

16. Bill Clinton got more than his share, as did Jimmy Carter...because they are DEMOCRATS - |
|
you are right - it is the republican style of politics - smear, lie, belittle, lie some more.
The republicans have nothing to offer but anger, hatred and fear.

13. I don't care so much if they call him Obama |
|
but I am mildly irritated when I hear him referred to as Mr. Obama rather than President Obama. If you're going to put a title in front of his name, I think it's more respectful to call him President Obama.
One of national morning news hosts regularly calls him Mr. Obama. Can't recall now if it's Matt Lauer on NBC or Harry Smith on CBS. I am usually a channel flipper in the morning!

even in the more formal print media where the first reference is to "President (whoever)", which is shortened to the last name for all following references. It has been that way since I've been reading newspapers (1956).
