"Now that the Democrats have essentially ceded the midterms to the Republicans..."
One of the talking heads explaining why the market was shooting up higher. She mentioned delaying the tax situation until after the election as her reason for her comment...

There you have it.

Why do we even bother anymore. I am so fucking discouraged.

It's like finally convincing the best looking girl in the school to go to the dance with you and the minute you get there, you say to the football star, hey, you deserve her more than I do, have fun kids. I'll just sit over here and pout about how unfair the world is...

1. I cannot even guess why our so-called leaders are behaving this way.
It is discouraging. And trying to replace them with more aggressive, more forward-looking Dems is next to impossible.

Out here, we tried and failed yet again to kick out Jane Harmon, and replace her with a real progressive, Marcy Winograd. Didn't happen; nothing has changed.

It really pisses me off.

10. I have a guess...They're all fucking rich.
The expiration of the unpaid-for Bush tax cuts would affect each and every one of them. And they know the economy is still likely to go deeper in the shitter...it's better to hold on to every penny you can NOW so you'll be better able to ride out the rest of the downturn. Hell, that's much of why Bush created the cuts in the first place -- to shift the wealth in order to drain the economy (read: cut social programs), while allowing the top 2% to build a big cushion against the turmoil.

14. this isn't a democratic system... if you got money you are electable
so we middle-to-low income americans NEVER become influential. It does happen occasionally, but this system ensures it will never change the overall complexion of this government.

2. There was a time when the liberals worked together to counter this sort of misinformation
now a percentage of liberals are also attacking the Democrats the the remaining Democrat supporting liberals are finding themselves waging a war on two fronts.

17. I can't believe this crap. Some asshole on tv sez something idiotic and DU'ers feel
compelled to post it since it's negative regarding Democrats.

4. I don't think she was telling the truth.
I'm sure she has her reasons for saying that, but the races are still on. The blue dogs in conservative districts are afraid to vote on the tax cuts before the election, and that's why they postponed the vote. Not because they've given up.

One could argue, of course, that not voting on a winning issue is ceding. It will make things more difficult, but that's not the same thing as surrender.

5. They are running ads in the Blue Dog districts that are making it
look as if they are all in the pocket of Pelosi. The Boccieri race her near Cleveland, they mention Pelosi more than they talk about Boccieri...

7. I call bullshit!
The stock market resumed a September rally on Friday following a sharp jump in orders for manufactured goods and better news about the European economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose nearly 185 points in afternoon trading and is heading for a fourth week of gains. That would be the longest winning streak since stocks rose to their highest levels of the year in late April.

So the rally is about two events unrelated to the tax cut vote. Also notable is the fact that this has been the FOURTH week of gains. So, if it was all about the decision announced yesterday, why would the market have been gaining for weeks?

8. Hope. And. Change.
I still have faith in the Majority - I still think we will be okay. We have to keep our energy up and its much harder to maintain a high, positive energy when everyone around you is in a lower, angry energy but it must be done!

The angry ones with no plan are screaming loudly and throwing temper tantrums. If you give a badly behaved child attention it just reinforces that behavior. Try to ignore it and take someone with you to vote democrat.

Peace, luv and put it in D,
Annette

9. I haven't ceded shit yet.
I fully plan to vote as does my aunt. That's two votes Republicans will NOT be getting. I'm sure there are plenty of others too.

I would say most Democrats haven't ceded shit. They can try that crap all they want, but it doesn't affect those of us who vote consistently.

13. We sent in our applications for Absentee already...
I'm still going to do what I have always done...

Still, taking that Tax Cut off the boards was a real stunner. It could have helped the very candidates who are lining up against voting before the election...

Idiots.

They don't trust their base.

19. well, would you rather I think that the Dem's will win, the tax cuts will be just and
deficits will decrease while we all join hands and sing kum bie ya...

If you honestly think that not addressing the tax cuts before the elections is brilliant strategy, well, can I have some of what it is that you are smoking.
