In Thursday’s Wall Street Journal, Rep. Michele Bachmann said she wouldn’t speculate on who the Speaker of the House would be if Republicans take control of the U.S. House next year — despite Rep. John Boehner being the likely pick. The paper notes that Boehner is having trouble gaining traction within the party. At the same time, a website has cropped up urging Republicans to reject Boehner and pick Bachmann for Speaker.
WSJ wrote:
Michele Bachmann, the Republican Minnesota congresswoman and informal leader of the House tea-party movement, similarly said she didn’t want to “speculate” on who might be the next speaker until Republicans regain power. “The next speaker of the House needs to be a constitutional conservative who has a wide open ear to the pleas of the American people,” she said.
BachmannForSpeaker.com seems to have popped up within the last week by someone named “Concerned Citizen.”
The website asks, “Do you support this effort to refuse the Washington Establishment to force John Boehner as the next Speaker instead of a real conservative like Michelle Bachmann?”
The website owner could not be reached for comment.
