A little sympathy for O'Donnell
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 02:05 PM by ThomWV
I can not imagine what horrible experience gave that young woman such a perverted view of human sexuality but once the elections are over she should seek professional help.

2. Her warp ideals about religion is the problem.
Or maybe something really bad happened on that altar.

4. Right now, we need to focus on keeping her and those like her
far, far away from public office, elected or appointed.

Once we accomplish that, we can work on compassion. After all, I think we'd all rather see her than be her.

5. HOnestly it makes me wonder too, like perhaps she was raped or something
And that's a horrible thing to have happen to anyone but honestly, the way she reacts towards others is just wrong.

6. I suspect she was once a naughty party girl and was 'saved.'
Now she's no fun at all. :(

7. I think you hinted at it: "Sympathy for the D_ _ _ _."
Something caused that expression on Rosemary's face. Maybe, Christine had a similar experience on the altar between the flickering candles, something either she can't forget or too vividly imagined . . . makes no difference which.

8. You have touched on a point that I have been reluctant to bring up ....
I have a Masters and PhD in Experimental Psychology.

But because I do not know this woman personally, I have tried to refrain from commenting along the lines you touch on.

She displays very common signs of a woman who was abused in some way. Probably not by parents of family. But more likely, date rape, unwanted pregnancy, and/or possibly abortion.

Speaking not as a PH.D but as a DU member, I know women who were brought up in religious homes. Homes in which they were shielded from their own sexuality. And when those girls go into the world, they are at risk. The "joke" about catholic high school girls has some truth to it. Their parents didn't talk to them about sex, and you can confess ... so why not experiment.

Girls from more strict faiths often have it worse. They are so shielded that when the enter college, they re totally unprepared. And sadly, their parents set them up unintentionally. These girls often "spread their wings" and get hurt ... because they had no idea what reality was. Mom and Dad had over protected them.

The response to that for girls varies. Some go nuts. They don't learn from the hurt, they fall deeper. Some get hurt and then pull back, WAY BACK.

That is how Christine O'Donnell strikes me. She was unprepared. She went into the world. She got hurt in a significant way. SO she pulled back, and would create law based on preventing the pain she experienced.

13. Overly strict parents can make girls feel sex is dirty and disgusting
I imagine the purity balls have a lot of girls who are forced to think of their sexuality in relationship to their fathers and how they must pledge their virginity to their fathers. There's something really repulsive about that. Most children can't stand the idea of their parents being sexual beings in the first place, and then to have to promise non-sexuality to your parents just seems way to sexual to me. Ugh!

Protection can be a sick thing in itself.

14. "Naive" is the word that I would describe her as
The fact that she wants to legislate her own personal kind of naivete is very disturbing.

9. She's an attention seeker
It might be really hard to cure that after she's been getting so many 'strokes' for it. That's why Bill Maher would put her on his show, he always knew she would say something outrageous.

She's going to be a career for a team of shrinks when this thing is done.

16. I'll have a lot of sympathy for her and even her
guru Mrs. Palin if they get out of politics but not before. Yeah, I feel sorry that Sarah has incorrigible children and that the last one has Down's syndrome, but as long as either of them are spreading their toxic ideas as what they would bring to the table as policy, I have none.

Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 04:48 PM by Terra Alta
Or completely sheltered by her parents. I wonder what her parents were like, and what her life was like growing up. Must have been pretty traumatic for her to have such warped views on sexuality. Either way, I hope she seeks help.
