The Texas Board of Education ups the ante on stupid
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State Board of Education has adopted a resolution seeking to curtail references to Islam in textbooks.

Social conservatives on the board had asked that the resolution be put on Friday's agenda. It was approved by a 7-6 vote.

The one-page resolution calls on textbook publishers to limit what they print about Islam in world history books and says the board "will look to reject future prejudicial social studies submissions."

The resolution is nonbinding on future boards, which will choose the state's next generation of social studies texts.

Social conservatives control the 15-member board for now, although the landscape is set to change after one member of the bloc lost his primary election bid and another chose not to seek re-election. ..........(more)

4. they obviously don't know history
In the Middle East, the Bible was assembled from a background of legends and ideas that were circulating. The Bible picked up one version of these, and the Quran picked up another. To find information about Jesus' relatives, you actually have to go to the Quran.

A major turning point of history was the "Arian Heresy", which at one time was the majority opinion among Christian theologians. So it is not at all surprising that such a large area turned to Islam. The Arians basically said "Jesus was a prophet". Islam says "Jesus was a prophet, and we have one more prophet". Arian Christianity and Islam were actually very close.

5. Was the world really that great in 70AD?
Did I miss something?

On the other hand, if you ever wondered what it would be like to talk to someone from the third century, well, we have a pretty good idea.

8. Obesity wasn't problem and you didn't need much in your retirement account.
Also wine was the preferred beverage.
