DEMS: Stop Making Sense!
An outside poll is asking:

What would the Democrats have to do to get you excited to vote for them this November?

- Dress up Nancy Pelosi like Lady Gaga?

- Get Joe Biden drunk and have him go off the handle on CNN?

The poll is satire but it brings up a good point - do the Democrats have to start acting as crazy as the Republicans to motivate their base?

What's DU's opinion?

7. Exactly. What's up with that?
I mean, the GOP watered down HRC and it passed without a single vote from them. Maybe I'm not old enough to remember, but when has a majority ever acted as much like a minority?

Sure, things are getting done, things are getting passed. But it seems like everyone on the left has to tip-toe around the absolute nuts on the far right - and those people on the far right can't possibly represent the the majority of America.

Something in all of this is just wrong. And it's difficult to find the motivation to say that the majority still has a chance to rule.

11. You know, for a hot minute I was excited about this election...
... and then Don't Ask Don't Tell wasn't repealed. Biden said on Rachel Maddow's show that the WH wasn't going to put a moratorium on witch hunts in the armed services because (as Biden strongly implied) there was some kind of deal cut where there would be no moratorium and there would then be enough votes to repeal.

And, of course, we all saw how that played out.

I voted for "Stop compromising with nothing to show for it." Where is the strong, sweeping, liberal agenda? Why are we always capitulating to the crazy far right? Lyndon Johnson knew that the Civil Rights Act would cost him votes in the South. But he pushed for it anyway. And our nation is greater because of that courage. Where is that kind of courage?

Arrgh.

3. The comment at the link that...
... the Democrats only need to be an inch to the left of right wing to be considered "liberal" really creeps me out. I'm afraid it's true.

8. I was talking to some friends I used to work with in the Senate...
... and they were predicting just that. The Democratic Party is not the one that anyone who's over 30 grew up with. The right keeps moving more to the right, and so do the Dems, hoping that they can pick up independent and swing votes. It's no longer Kennedy vs. Nixon - it's Rush Limbaugh vs. Nixon.

Sad.

10. Don't they realize that by sliding right they're losing their base?
While the GOP motives their own? And another thing, I've discouraged that a refuge like DU is even giving up on the party it's named for. Sorry, just frustrated.

6. Common Sense
There is logical sense and emotional sense.

Yes, the Democrats should stop triangulating and appealing to the other side and explaining things in detail so logically, and start talking from emotion, with heartfelt populist values.

That would bring in the disenchanted and that would win votes.

Stop making sense? No. Make common sense versus convoluted, politicized, triangulating, watered down, Rahm Emanue, current health bill and every other damn thing they happen to passl kind of sense - YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
