A thought about Ministers of megachurches...
It is interesting to see how ministers of the megachurches and even those that started their own churches seem to end up getting in trouble because of the power the wield in those churches. Basically they become more import than the message the church and the religion itself. Growing up in the protestant faith, a minister would never stay more than 6-7 years at one church. Thus they could never become more important than the church, religion of message.

In the megachurch situation, there is no-one to challenge the view of the minister. It really doesn't matter the size of the church, but the larger the more the opportunity for corruption. Absolute power absolutely corrupts.

1. It's like they say about other types of superstars -- they begin believing their own press. nt

5. You're exactly right - well said
And if there is no accountability, there is......no accountability. I think that's the main reason many ministers - of large and small churches - get into trouble. That is why it's important to be surrounded by people who will take you to task and aren't afraid to confront you when something isn't right.

2. Back in the 70's...
Long before Jim and Tammy or Jimmy Swaggart had their little escapades, my Assembly of God pastor had an affair with a married church member... and upon hearing of his transgressions, the pastor's wife tried to commit suicide. I was 17... can you say scarred for life? LOL!

3. Good point
I notice that in a megachurch the pastor is viewed as a some kind of superstar. Almost up there with the god that they worship. I also notice that many of these pastors make very good money. I often wonder what kind of salaries these people make because the pastors always seems to be doing very well.

4. You can tell there's going to be trouble in a mega-chruch
When their billboards feature close-ups of the minister's face.

Also, you can tell there's going to be trouble, when the church has billboards in the first place.
