I got a letter from the NRA today
On the front it says in big red letters 'final notice.' Up to the right where the postage usually goes is written Non-Profit Org. US postage paid.

well NRA I guess you'll be paying the postage back to you cause I'm putting the unopened envelope back in the mail box in the morning with written in big black letters REFUSED, return to sender on the front and on the back so they'll get the message that I don't want their shit in my mail box.

that is all.

1. You Know What I Do When I Get Right-Wing Mail?
Particularly when it comes with a postage-paid return envelope..........

You fill that envelope up with every piece of trash you can find and make it as heavy as humany possible, and then you send it back to them and make them pay the postage. I got the idea when the Republican Party started sending me "questionaires" every month asking for my opinions. They would always come with return envelopes, and the envelopes had a note on them that said I could help save the Republican Party valuable money by using my own stamp to return it. Thanks for giving me the idea to not only NOT use my own stamp, but to jack up the postage as high as humanly possible before sending back your "questionaire" with all the responses marked as the ones you DON'T want to hear.

I haven't worked up the nerve to do it yet, but one of these days I'm going to tape that postage pre-paid envelope to a cinder block or something and then send it back so the postage is like a hundred bucks. That would be great. And if I could figure out how to get their offices signed up to every junk mail service known to man, I'd do that too.

3. I used to do that with junk mail ads
I ran out of patience with it, though.

13. I've done this before about 30 years ago and it stopped the mailings then
I guess the new guys weren't paying attention that I don't want their brand of trash in my mail box. So I'm sending them a reminder.

Don't get me wrong I think its fine for someone to own a gun, its just I don't want to own a gun due to the things I've been through. I damn sure don't want the NRA sending me anything though as I agree with nothing coming out of their brand of bullshit.

6. If it's a bulk mailing, you're probably not causing them any grief by refusing it: unless
it has some extra endorsement like return service, I don't think the post office actually sends it back to them -- you're just forcing usps to handle it more before dead lettering it

8. That's why I always send back the postage paid return envelope. This
year the NRA asked (but not necessary) that you put a stamp on the envelope. They must be getting a lot of those envelopes back without postage and money.

12. Having been a postal clerk in the navy
I have to say that when a letter is refused or returned to sender it has to be sent back to the sender with the sender paying the postage. In this case they will have to pay the same postage as I do if I mail them a letter not the discounted price they get with their bulk stamp purchase. Maybe its changed since then but I don't think so. I went in the other day to pick up a parcel and I noticed that they still have the pertinent stamps for stamping the return to sender and refused as the post office did when I was a postal clerk some 40 years ago.

They'll be paying to get this letter back in their mail box.

20. 507 Mailer Services
1.1 Nondelivery of Mail
Mail can be undeliverable for these reasons ...
e. Mail refused by the addressee at time of delivery.
f. Mail refused by the addressee after delivery when permitted ...

Exhibit 1.5.3a Treatment of Undeliverable Standard Mail ...
No Endorsement
In all cases: Piece disposed of by USPS ...
"Return Service Requested"
In all cases:
Piece returned with new address or reason for nondelivery attached (in either case, only return postage charged at First-Class Mail single-piece price or Priority Mail single-piece price, as appropriate for weight of piece) ...

http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/507.htm

This is actually governed by quite lengthy rules, and since I don't need to know them, I'm not going to go through the postal manual trying to sort out all the definitions. I've helped with a number of bulk mailings for various nonprofit and political organizations over the years, and IIRC without certain extra endorsements (such as "Address Service Requested") perhaps depending on the exact permit, a non-deliverable piece wouldn't necessarily come back

11. How'd you even get on their mailing list in the first place?
AFAIK, they don't send out mail to any address unless there's a member there. Previous owner of your home?

16. Nope and their was no previous owners at this address as this address didn't exist
After buying this place I requested that the post offices add my home to the mail route and up until I did that there was no address that is the same as mine. That could be a whole 'nuther post in how much of a hassle it was to get that done but I digress

14. Many people have wants, I know how that feels a bit.

I have thought about the beer and travel money due to me, and many good experiences, so I understand your concept of want.

I find that there is a way to want, without letting it be most important in your life. Sorta want, as long as it also fits with what other thoughts you have.

But I do understand the concept of want.

Hell I don't even have a gun to fight them off with. my choice too.
Anyone can make up their own mind as to if they want a gun our not. I just don't want the NRA sending me any of their bullshit as I agree with none of it and never have.
