Tropical Storm Matthew leaving massive destruction
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11410639
<snip>
Five Haitian refugees have been killed as a storm overtook the impoverished country still recovering from the January earthquake, media report.

The rainstorm passed over the capital of Port-au-Prince on Friday, tearing down houses and power lines.

The dead had been in homeless camps inundated by rain and devastated by wind, officials told AFP news agency.

The wind blew away tarps, tent poles and tin roofs, opening family shacks to the elements, the Associated Press reported.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Matthew has made landfall in Honduras and Nicaragua with winds of 75km/h (45mph).

Matthew is expected to bring up to 10in (25cm) of rain, with a risk of flooding and landslides.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has ordered the evacuation of hundreds of people living in the storm's path.
-------------
Venezuela has also had deaths, mud slides and serious damage.
Nicaragua and Honduras are under pressure as I type - that is serious rain.

2. We're so lucky it isn't funny
Yes there is some flooding in a few places outside of Kingston, but no deaths,mudslides or damage. Mudslides are rare here thanks to Michael Manley's replanting message for decades.
We plan to drive out and see what's happening on the airport road and road to Port Royal because they've destroyed all the mangroves claiming that they are building some new highway and we have seen serious flooding on the old road when there are systems South of us. Environmentalists here are very worried that they are about to make a bad situation worse and we agree with them.
