Oooops. Embarrassing Journalism Gaffes Department.

This has got to be an award winner. The local newspaper ( pretty good rag by local standards... it even gets an award periodically for outstanding local reportage from the United-somethingorother Society) has two recurring weekly photographic features:

1. Eyesore of the Week ( almost always a depiction of local blight: e.g graffittied storefronts, garbage cans overflowing or upended... that sort of thing.)

2. Photographer's Eye ( usually a nature study, scenic landscape or cityscape. Never runs short of subjects; it's picturesque around here.)

Wellllll... they got 'em mixed up last week and and ... wouldn't ya know it.... they're catching hell.


Here's their apology in the current issue. ( OK I can't help but giggle a bit, even though the paper is pretty good... with fairly progressive politics.... and I feel a little bad for it at the same time.)

thinking, hmmm.. progressive paper .... perfect way to f* with them ....

(perhaps someone in the production process with access to slip this by, doesn't like the way the paper's run?)

2. It does have a fierce RW (mostly) competitor.

A "free" entity that one gets at street corner boxes, etc.

That DID cross my mind. And it's not TOTALLY beyond imagining.

I like the one that goes right into the hispanics putting up the DR or PR flags. Good god , can they ever get past the nonsense?

Ohh... did you catch the description, ( i think it's in the story, not in the letters) of Mr. O'keefe's fire escape as a "balcony"?

Sounds like they're getting their news pages mixed up with their real estate ads.
