Pentagon Destroys Almost 10,000 Copies Of Agent's Memoirs

Washington, DC, United States (AHN) - The Pentagon has preemptively destroyed almost 10,000 copies of a memoir written by a former intelligence agent detailing secret operations in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense destroyed the copies of “Operation Dark Heart” on Sept. 20. The Pentagon will reimburse Macmillan Publishers, the book's publisher, according to ABC News.

The book was written by Army Reserve Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, who worked with the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2003 in Afghanistan.

____ MacMillan’s St. Martin’s Press division states on its website that the Pentagon contacted the company on Aug. 13 saying that the book “could cause damage to U.S. national security.”
