anyone with any knowledge, any ideas. plumbing/dishwashers.
for about three months my dishwasher stopped washing. (water flow looked good). the glasses and dishes had a film of soap. i started using things to clean out the whatevers... thinking clogged. called dishwasher guy and he didnt even open dishwasher. charged me 60 bucks and told me to buy crl. (i later learned no to that). i used crl, bought industrial dishwasher stuff and vinegar. nothing worked.

we bought another dishwasher. it, too, is not washing and has a film. i talked to two plumbers and they told me pressure or heat of water. i have one of those little box water heater things. one plumber told me to clean out water heater with vinegar. so gonna try, but all while telling me, he was saying should have nothing to do with it. hubby bought a water pressure gauge thing, and seems like pressure is right. though i have not trusted our city water or pressure for months.

plumbers are clueless. dishwasher people clueless. cant even get anyone to look at stuff.

dishwashers worked for decades in this house. not like they cant.

internet says nothing.

and i am NOT washing dishes by hand

has anyone had this issue.

1. Even if you buy the same dishwasing detergent, some companies have changed their formulas and the
lower-phosphate mixes can leave a white residue on glasses.

2. No, but I'll give you a kick
in case someone else does. How frustrating. especially after you invested in a new one. And I am so with you on the "I am not washing dishes by hand." LOL. I can read the desperation in your voice.

3. When the wash cycle is on for 2-4 minutes, stop the machine, open door..
...and see if plates/stuff is hot.
That will, at least, tell you if the Heat/wash cycle is fine.

4. Sounds like it might not be draining the dirty water completely..
Check where your water drains from the dishwasher into the sewer line, it may be plugged up right at the connection.

9. That would be my guess
Most dishwashers empty into the sink disposal so there's a line that runs between the two. The first thing I would do is disconnect that line at the disposal and check to see if it's clogged up with grease. It could be letting some water go through but not enough to clean it out prior to the rinse cycle.

13. Mine too. I had the same problem and found that the hose at the disposal was indeed clogged shut.

5. Maybe your water just became "hard" for some reason?
I think tests are pretty cheap.

6. Try Cascade Complete Liquid?
It works well for me. And I use Finish Jet Dry in the rinse.
Good luck!

11. yeah, and we have very hard water here
and have not invested in any water softeners yet.
Don't know which one to get, and probably can't afford
them either, which is very frustrating.

7. I had a similar issue with sticky stuff on everything
I was putting empty cans in D/W so they would be clean for the recycle bin and I wasn't using extra water to rinse them. Turns out the glue they use for the labels was dissolved, but not rinsed away so it was on everything. Took several cycles to clean it out.

I suspect it is something--probably plastic--you wash on a regular basis that is causing the problem.

I recommend running it for a few cycles completely empty. And the harder your water, the more detergent you need.

10. a few questions...
do you have city water or well water? because we have well water and have had issues with film on dishes and dishes not being clean. my husband bought me a new dishwasher and we discovered the one had a leak. but we still had issues with the dishes. we were out of water softener salt in our water softener. it could be any number of things. do you use jet dry? have you cleaned the dishwasher recently? just throw some vinegar in it and run it empty? a packet of lemonade mix works great too.... the citric acid cleans it out. crl i have learned is a waste of money. and we have rust in our water, so i would know.

i can ask my hubby when he has a moment. he might be able to shed some light on your problem.

12. I was having a similar problem
Edited on Sun Sep-26-10 12:04 PM by Big Blue Marble
two years ago with a dishwasher that was only one year old. Called my repair company and they advised a product called Glisten.
It is powdered citric acid and works like a dream. I use it every two to three months. Pour into empty dishwasher and run a full
cycle. It cleans the sediment from the spray jets and the dishwasher interior.

Only 3.25 a box if you buy 12 boxes from http://www.shehasit.com/catalog/glisten-dishwasher-cleaner-p-29.html">Shehasit

The person from the repair company said that the sediment builds faster in drought conditions at least in our area as the water
is pumped from rivers that are at lower levels.

16. Maybe you could go by Home Depot and hire a day laborer to wash your dishes?
Or put up an ad on craigslist?

Or... wash your dishes by hand until you can afford a new dishwasher?

Just throwing out some ideas to consider...

18. Is your little box heater feeding the dishwasher? The problem may be volume not pressure.
Also check ad see if it is draining as is should be. Maybe you have years of gunk clogging your drain.

20. Same thing happened to us. It turned out to be the detergent - formula had changed.
We had always used Cascade, and have an old dishwasher. Suddenly we started getting a lot of film on our glasses and dishes, and we assumed the old machine was going bad. Then I did some research and found that the formula had changed - it may have been mandated by law for environmental reasons. We switched to Finish, which, though it also uses the new formulation, seems to have solved most of the problem.
