Republicans Snatching Defeat Out of the Jaws of Expected Victory
"We are not going to be any different than what we've been." -- John Boehner

September 26, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- {snip}

. . . after internal GOP debate and relentless White House goading, Republicans eager to show voters that they're ready to govern and that they stand for something have rolled out a policy agenda of their own. And, perhaps, played right into the Democrats' hands.

House GOP leader John Boehner cast the "Pledge to America" as "a new governing agenda, built by listening to the American people, that offers a new way forward." But he also acknowledged that it lacked specifics on important subjects like Social Security and Medicaid.

Much of it also adhered generally to age-old GOP principles . . .

. . . the GOP's campaign manifesto gives the president's party a potentially valuable tool as it tries cast the midterm elections as a choice that voters must make between two economic visions rather than a referendum on Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress as Republicans want.

With the 21-page GOP document, Democrats now have something to point to as they seek to bolster their claim that Republicans offer nothing more than the same policies of the past. The plan also is filled with material for Democrats to use to draw sharp contrasts with GOP candidates in a campaign that has been tilting the Republicans' way.

2. If Boner's line isn't used all across the country I'm joining the tea party!
If democrats are so inept they refuse to use Boner's line I'm going to turn my back on them. Democratic leaders have been completely inept and cowardly. If they only used all of the ammo given to them by the republicans they would be slaughtering the republicans this November.

3. They haven't used his line that the financial crisis
was an ant and that wall street reform was using a nuclear bomb against an ant... or something like that.

so, millions being thrown out of work and/or into foreclosure is "an ant" to Boehner.

Every Democrat in the country should be using that in an ad...

5. Who in the hell are the dolts running the democratic party?
I could create a perfect stategy to destroy republicans but I don't believe democratic leaders even want to win this November. Because of their lack of ideas and balls I have even wondered if they want to lose congress thinking it will help them in 2012. How can I support leaders who are complete dolts or intentionally wanting to lose congress to the republicans.

7. that doesn't make sense

They all realize the benefits of incumbency. Doesn't make sense that they'd deliberately invite an new batch of republican dead weights to settle in.

I see Democratic candidates running hard and actually gaining on their republican challengers in many instances. I don't think the 'Democratic leaders' are standing still, either.

13. I know it doesn't make sense, thats why I was talking about democratic leaders :)
Face it, the Daily Show writers do a better job at messaging than the democratic leaders do. They need to be forceful and condemn ALL of the reckless and insane rantings from the tea party and republicans. When the radical right says anything ridiculous democrats should immediately condemn them and not mince words. When and if they do respond they are often too late or totally ineffective. No democratic leader spoke out to confront all of the insane things coming from the tea baggers and the corporate organizations which funded their 'grassroots' organizations. I was in total disbelief when President Obama and democratic leaders allowed the dimwitted tea baggers to outsmart them and seize control over the messaging regarding the health care debates.

I've only seen a handful of democrats who have the guts to go up against the republicans or the tea party. It's like most of them are terrified of speaking out even when their opponents are saying things that are either outrageous or insane. And they allow blatant lies to stand without direct confrontation. Just about every expert I've heard has repeated what I have stated about the total ineffectiveness by democratic leadership. Democrats had a golden opportunity to force republicans to vote on jobs bills to the elimination of the Bush tax cuts while leaving the middle class tax cuts in place, but they did nothing. Instead of forcing members of congress to remain in session to pass a bill to help the 99ers in July, both houses of congress fled Washington instead of standing up for what was right and what could helped people and our economy.

Democrats are giving up or giving in on almost every issue. Harry Reid doesn't even force republicans to actually filibuster. All republicans have to do is say they are going to filibuster and Reid caves in. I don't remember one instance since Obama has been president where republicans have actually performed the duties of a real filibuster. I would force republicans to filibuster for weeks or months at a time, but Reid always gives in. It's like he is afraid of republicans.

What is frustrating is all the compromising on bills where democrats have allowed good bills to be watered down to the point where they are essentially useless and still not getting a single republican vote. I would rather see democrats stand up for the people who put them in office, instead of constantly giving into the enemy. When republicans had much smaller majorities I'm congress under Bush they were very successful in getting their bills passed. If democrats have no idea what to do why don't they just steal republican methods on how to get things accomplished.

The democratic party has been given gift after gift by the republicans, but they aren't using those gifts as opportunities to savagely attack republicans for their anti-people, anti-American positions on almost every issue. I am certainly not the only one to notice the ineptness of democrats to seize opportunities. I've even heard republican strategists bewildered because of how democrats keep allowing republicans to control the national dialogue or easily stop bills without any opposition from democratic leaders.

I am very tired of democratic timidity and lack of creativity. Real leaders would not permit the minority party to be in total control of our government.

10. Part of the problem is the media
Democrats can shout until they're blue in the face, but if the media doesn't report on it, then nobody will know. I mean, the media has been almost unprecedented in how much Obama has gotten ignored. Every time Bush spoke, it made the news on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. No matter if it was a political campaign rally or not. Obama has not gotten as much coverage when he speaks - despite being a slightly better speaker than Bush.
