The FBI is raiding peace activists' homes. The Pentagon is burning books. |
|
Congress is flopping around uselessly because they care more about re-election than about doing their jobs. There is talk of the executive branch claiming the power to execute American citizens without due process. The former chief of the CIA thinks that the President should have the power to shut down the internet in a national "emergency" (to be defined by THEM, of course). The Koch-funded Teabaggers are fulfilling their function--to discredit any and all "populist" movements as loony and disreputable. The media is still talking about Lindsay Lohan. And We the People are so distracted by polarized wedge-issue politics that we couldn't manage to coherently stand together if our lives depended on it--which they very well might.
What the hell is going ON?! Seriously, people--am I the only one who feels like we're arguing over window seats on a plane that's about to crash?

1. Oh, but there are sterling reasons for each and every one of these incidents |
|
None of them are connected, and they all happen in hermetically-sealed incident jars. One thing has nothing to do with anything else, and they're all just anomalies that exist in their own little space. There are no dots here to connect. And these aren't the droids you're looking for. Please go about your business.

2. The Pentagon is burning books? |
|
I'm not up to date on that one, what are you referring to?
And yeah, I agree, these are drastic times. And drastic times call for what?

9. Oh, OK, I heard they were planning to do that |
|
looks like they did. Man, I don't know if I would've released an edited version after that without some kind of legal action requiring me to do so if I were that publisher. I would've been like what, we got prior approval, if you don't like it, we've got some more books to sell you

11. so what does it *really* mean...? |
|
Either President Obama is unable to handle the stuff that has already been in place, and they keep on doing it whether or not he okys it, which means he may be President but the peices have been in place (i.e. fed judges, cia, fbi, etc) for so long they will continue to perform independently of the president, because they have orders from BushCo? Or is it that both dems and rethugs are all in the same boat, and that power has corrupted ALL the system and that we are now facing a corporatocracy/plutocracy situation, and we are ALL just proles...?
either way, it may be in our own best interest to just stay local, and set up our neighborhood gardens and figure out how to be our own tribe, and hope they don;t decide we are the anti-govt 'cells' yuk that's so unnerving...but what's even worse it the fact i don't doubt it for a second...it makes no difference anymore what side of the aisle they are on...absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the money and power these people need to even BE in office has warped them all into little coprorate puppets, and the monster corps just keep on barreling over the planet and her people, using resources and eating forests and excreting failed hollow cities left in the wake of the materialism we once worshipped.
What a great time I picked to join the planet and live through!

14. The truth of the matter is that your vote doesn't matter. |
|
The people you elect don't matter. The system has been run by a shadow government so long that the elected officials are pretty much superfluous, and what you are being told is going on is not what is going on. That's been true from the beginning; Americans have been well trained in the art of self-deception, of 'knowing' what you're told is the truth.
The US standard of living has been stolen with the aid of the military, and mostly from small, out of the way places which can't fight back. As that becomes unpalatable, the weight of the military apparatus becomes so ruinous, you end up with two options; either totalitarianism and the eventual collapse of the empire, or drawing back on the empire and a reduced standard of living....which would be a plus for the entire world.

and go off the grid? How long do you tenaciously hold onto this ship? If you cannot influence the pilot or flight crew to change direction, the only alternative is to take a sedative and go back to sleep.....or take another plane somewhere safer.

19. Obama is not in control |
|
I think Obama a good man but compromised by being Establishment in fact and mind-set.
I have been expecting major hot WWIII style-war for several years now (and have been wrong).
The world and USA is not in a good place; especially for individuals that want a decent, fair meaningful, and secure life for their families, neighbors, and friends and recognize that this is the same common hope somewhere over 80% of humans on the planet. The deviants are the vested interests in control, violence freaks, and brainwashed morons.
There are too many people on the planet and we need to reduce and educate populations and be wiser about science and mythologically based religions.
The major trends in various crucuial areas are not consistent but unstable and lead by idealogues. The economy and civil freedom are at break through levels like past upheavals -- this can be relative from nation to nation and community to community --those most in denial are those who have not yet met the face of insecurity.
