Anti intellectualism, for all the blaming we are hearing of unions |
|
and how education is failing and all that... all this comes down to the anti-intellectual tradition in the United States, going back to the 17th century. It also goes down to the cult of the individual and property also going back to the 17th century... these are things that are part of the culture. They are not easy to change, but if they don't, all this discussion is about spinning wheels and privatizing things (see we worship private property).
In the end the US is already well on it's way to second tier nation... and the fall of the American Empire will come soon. But we are well on the way. I wonder when the day will come when the US falls behind what are now second tier nations like Brazil and Mexico... (Yes Mexico is right now opening 25 new campuses in the state of Hidalgo alone, granted they have a few issues themselves and quite the anti intellectual tradition, but... they seem to be investing in education)...
But until our distrust of knowledge and educated people changes... and I am not holding my breath on that. I mean Prayze ye Jesus seems to be the slogan of the day... and we all know the world was created what was it... 6K years ago and the Bible is correct. We may make fun of those attitudes, but they are far more common than any of us want to acknowledge.
At the pace we are going... a generation and Brazil will be ahead of us... in education performance.

2. It's definitely in the interest of the wealthy to keep |
|
folks relatively uneducated and divided ... but mostly what I see the past few weeks is extreme union-bashing, which I also noticed was directed towards the auto unions back during the bail-outs.
But I do agree with your conclusion that the fall of the empire is coming.

3. The problem is that this is not about the rich or the poor |
|
this is a LONG STANDING part of the American DNA. Teachers know stuff, doctors know stuff. Them are experts, and they are not to be trusted.
Add to that them commie unions and you have a powerful brew...
And it will be the undoing.
Of course the end of empire will bring the end of this inland empire as well... and some regions where this is stronger, will emerge as pretty backwards successor states... and some of them probably with nukes in their territory...

6. Teachers teach stuff... |
|
that doesnt necessarily mean they know stuff.
Doctors are subject matter experts in their particular field, but some of them tend to think that just because they are doctors they are experts in everything.

7. So you have never found a doctor |
|
that is ignorant even in his subject matter?
I have.
But thanks for giving us a perfect example of the anti expert feelings in this country. Don't feel bad, goes back, all the way back to the 17th century.
